Default Nissan 350z LS1 Swap!

I own a 2003 Nissan 350z and I plan on swapping out the 3.5L VQ35DE v6 with an LS1. One of my main questions is if this harness will work? Also which LS1 engine to choose from? I hear good things about the 5.3L. A specific year or mileage you should want? price of a good one?
Also any tips, or advice?

Wiring Harness(not sure if this is the correct one):

the differences between the 5.3 and the 5.7 is the pistons, rods, bore, cam and heads. they used the same block and same crank. is money no object or are you on a budget? i would look at an LS6 and swap out the cam for something bigger. good luck to ya and keep us posted!!

A budget right now, but in a year or two I wont be.
I kind of want to just throw one in there first so that way the next time I pull it and change parts the mounts, wiring, etc are already hooked up and it's a lot easier.
How much does an LS6 usually run?

Probably would be a lot of work. But I am sure a ls1 in a 350z would be pretty bad a**. I would wait til the budget ispretty open cause its not a cheap thing to do! Probably looking at a minimal 5k

Planned on it being a lot of work lol...budget will be open in one year.. working on the engine first... I'm looking at an ls1 or ls6..I read the write up about the budget one but it says to buy an engine from the junkyard.. shouldn't you want to hear it run?

There are already a couple on here. It's one of my favorite swaps and I'd love to do it someday. For a cheap engine a 5.3 or 4.8 is the way to go, but you'll probably want a car intake and oil pan. Truck oil pans are usually to low. If you are wanting a t56 you'll need to consider what the trans will cost plus everything you'll need to make a truck engine fit like a LS1 would. Considering people want $1500-$1800 for a t56, a 5.3 drop out could be had for $500, an LS6 intake is usually $350 used. Not sure if the truck injectors work on a LS6 intake. fbody oil pan might cost ya $150, then you might need to spend a couple hundred on front accessories because the truck stuff won't clear the throttle body with a car intake. You'd be close to $3000 already. I bought a pull out LS1/t56 from a 00 TA for $3000 in 08 but I got a good price. Most on ebay at the time were $3500-$4500 depending on year and mileage. 4 years later with all the LS2s, LS3, their other variants, and aluminum truck engines hitting junk yards I figured LS1s would be cheaper by now but the asking prices on here and ebay sure seam higher than they use to be for some reason.

I'd say if you want a t56 look for a good deal on a fbody pull out with trans, accessories and everything. If you're just looking for a budget engine to start with the smaller truck engines can be picked up cheap.

Everytime I see a 350Z car I think how cool they would be with LS power. It is ton of work but if you have another car to drive why not try it?
I got an LS6 crate engine and 4L65E trans and swapped into a Cobra Kit car and it was a fun process. The Z is such a better car to begin with....I think your a lucky man to be doing this swap. Over the years I have learned to wait and save your money and do it the way you want it the first time...saves a lot of time and money in the long run.

Please let us know if we can help.

If we did this swap, you know we would only do it if you had some kind of 6 speed to put behind it. Jus sayin'.

Because of the hood clearance and needing a diff oil pan I thinj youd be money ahead finding a ls1 over a truck motor. Search the conversions forum for 350z threads and contacting sikky would be your best options on gathering info

wut? the 5.3 block is a completely different casting that is/was iron until the LS4 fwd cars (trucks may still use the iron casting version). furthermore, the rods are the same, the heads are slightly different but only the combustion chambers, i believe, to get the compression up to ~10:1 in the 5.3 (i think).

Okay I'm pretty much set on a 5.3 as its the same as the 5.7 in a car minus the aluminum block which is around 65lbs and that only adds 10hp..truck is a lot cheaper too...
Is the sikky kit even necessary? The kit only fits a t56 and those are expensive? Could I use a car one to match the truck engine? I would really like to keep it 6spd... I have the possibility to get a 99 trans am. Ls1 with tranny comp wires etc. They want 3000. Not sure if its automatic.

I am about wrap up my build on my 350z soon. Here is a link so you can see how the build goes. I went a little further then must but thats just me..:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...nuff-said.html

Now for the harness you might want to hit up Chase Bays as there harness is made for the 350z/LS1 swap.. and it is done right.

Some of the reply's above are not exactly true. They do make an aluminum 5.3 called the L33. It comes with 243/799 heads 9.9:1 compression and a higher lift cam. I know because I just finished my L33/t56 swap into my 240sx. I originally bought an Iron 5.3 known as an LM7, but I found a place that sells rebuildable blocks for cheap and it was within driving distance so I made the trip to pick up an L33 short block for $250. I planned on rebuilding anyway so it was the way to go for me. I ended up making money from parting out the lm7. I rebuilt mine and installed a cam and I'm making 346 whp and 325 wtq. You'll be happy with the 5.3 but if you can find a 5.7 or if you are going Iron block I would just throw a 6.0 Lq4 or lq9 in it. Good luck.

I put a 406 ls2 stroker in my g35 same platform. Be ready for a lot of work and a lot of money. Buying the engine and trans is one thing, the. U have radiator, mounts, exhaust, fuel setup, and so on. I have about 23k in my car with swap but also have a built 406. It's very costly and time consuming. Nuff said's drift car looks great. Saw it on my350z. I I had it all to do over I would have put a 5.3 built with turbo and called it a day. Good luck also chasebays.com for your harness.

Okay have a shot at ls1 and t56 from a 99 trans am.. asking 3000. 77k miles. I'm considering fabricating mounts myself just so I can save 2k on the sikky kit. How difficult would this be? Also what comp parts would I need from the trans am. Would I need the harness if I used chase bays?
