Hey guys, new to to the forum an looks like a lot of Info here! I'm a newbie to the ls1 so I have a few questions and if you guys would point me in the right direction I'd appricate it! My 5.3 in my silverado is getting old, 185,000 miles and piston slapping pretty good, so I wanna start building my engine so when the time comes I'll have one. I want direct bolt on, I don't want to have to change out my tranny or anything like that. So what year should I look for an ls1 out of? Anything I should look out for? Tips? pointers? Will be a project for me an my grandad and we have never done a motor swap before besides rebuilding an putting the stock ones back in. So thanks once again

2000-up LS1, bolt the truck accessories & Intake up to it, direct swap in.

If I were you I would skip the LS1 and look for a LQ4. It will be cheaper and its a 6.0L block so you get a few more cubes. Also the 6.0L block will accept the newer LS3 heads if you really want to make it breathe.

I did the 6.0 swap with heads and cam in my 99 z71..you won't regret it,be sure you put the 80e in behind it..I built my 4l60,had nothing but problems with it.. So I just put a stock 5.3 back in.now the 6.0 is waiting to go into my fox body..if you want to see what it did in my truck just let me know..oh and mine has a 6in lift with 35's...that had a lot to do with eating up tranny's!
