Default Best Mufflers for LS1 + Fox Mustang Street/Strip Car

Hey All,

I'm doing an LS1/Fox hybrid. It is a mild h/c car, 440-ish rwhp with a 6 speed and 8.8 rear end.

The car has 1 7/8 Dynatech headers and I'm going with a 3" x-pipe into dual 3" exhaust, dumped as far back as possible.

As far as the exhaust note goes, I'm looking for the semi-exotic sound of many of the C5 vettes with head/cam/long tube headers... for example, the GHL setup or something similar to that.

What do you guys recommend as far as a muffler setup?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure but I put a dynomax on my 95 camaro with a LS1 in it. headers into a 3 in y. Sounds good. No drone at highway speeds but will scream when you jump on it.

The only way to get that exotic sound a vette has is to run the 3" over the axle and put the mufflers in the back of the car. This is almost impossible to do with the stock tank. A bullit will not sound the same and looks cheap. A round 3" magnaflow or dynatech type with a very short tip or none at all with an x pipe about half way will give you that rasp and pop at idle that you want. If you have to run the stock tank then I would find a good chassis shop in your area and take them a stock empty tank and have them narrow it with flat sides on each side. I have seen this done before and you only loose a couple of gallons of capacity.

The mustangs typically put the mustang under the rear seats and with the long tail pipe the tone drones and smooths out. If you dump it back there it before the axle it sounds like every other car with dumps cause it is bouncing off the ground and back up under the body.

I did a 1989 fox body gt with 3.5" and a 383 chevy with the mufflers in the back and no x pipe and it sounded the way your wanting yours to sound. It will be loud at idle and when you get on it.

I run 2 1/2 steeda/borla mufflers dumped on my car straight through design nice sound even for daily driving. Also I have a 3inch xpipe on the car I orig. had flowmaster 40 series with tail pipes and they were pretty damn quiet till i got onto it
