How do you like the Canton pan? Does it hang below the x-member any? Just wondering cause I have the ctsv pan on my 73 and it hangs below the x-member about 1/2-3/4 inch. Cant wait to see the turbo install, will be doing mine next spring/summer.

It does hang down past the cross member, I was thinking about welding a plate of thick steel on the bottom of the cross member just in case is bottoms out. Don't want to damage the Canton!!! My cross member was already cut to clearance my other oil pan....so install was a breeze!

That firewall is going to look complete different soon. Fan will be gone, wiper cowling painted and the wiper motor . The brakes always sucked with that brake booster, changing that out also!

Ha, my 76 was a shade darker in color with no vinyl roof. Otherwise pretty much identical.
I too had a low pan on my 80 Z28 and thought about a heavy piece of steel. My car sat low enough that i tagged the pan oh so slightly when backing into the garage. Just tagged the pad as the pad sits a bit higher than the driveway.
So i would say, if you do the plate idea, curl it up on both the front obviously and at the back of the pan so if reversing and you slightly rub something, the plate will ride the object rather than hit abruptly. Your car sits higher than mine so you should be fine though.

Have some more progress on the manifolds. More to come! ( alternator is just for clearance issues, its from a Subaru )

UPDATE:
I've been back at it after a crappy winter here in Vermont.
Hotside almost complete, just need to weld in the diverted valve. Cold side is all measured, cut, and is getting welded this weekend. Mounted the intercooler nice and tucked inside the front bumper and radiator support, needed to plasma cut about a inch of 3/4 of steel from the impact bar, that **** is think from the '70s. The grille hides the four core intercooler, very sneaking set up im going for. I'm keeping the maroon / vinyl top for now to give it a "grandma Sunday" kind of look to her.
