2BFAST's 69 Camaro LS1/60E swap Alright everyone, after selling my blown & sprayed Silverado SS I have taken on a new challenge. Integrating new technology into classic style. I have modded late model cars & trucks mainly GM so the LS and late model hot rod scene isnt new to me. But mixing that with a classic car is so lets get it on...... The Car: 1969 Camaro. By the body numbers this car is an X44. Decoded as orginally Cortez silver with navy blue vinyl top and navy blue vinyl seats! :barf: It was also a 307 car. That is all I can get out of the body tag. Main thing is this is the better half's car as she bought it from her uncle.Long story short is her uncle has had this car for years and was his life. It was probably at a car show damn near every weekend for years. Here in the last 4-5 years his health has declined and hasnt had it to keep with it and has sat ever since. He made the decision to let it go here recently and she couldnt see anyone else owning it other than someone in the family so we took it home. Its an older restoration sometime in the mid/late 90's. Its painted Saphire blue pearl with white stripes which is actually a Ford color code. Complete tweed interior :barf: Gen I small block 355, TH350 trans, 10 bolt rear. Its a really solid car just completly outdated. Here she is the night we brought it home. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/IMAG0193.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0684.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0687.jpg Stopped by a really cool place down the road from the house. Old Skelly station down the road. Thought it would make a cool pic which it did obviously http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0154.jpg This is where I come in the picture......bwahahahaha http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/NMS_0176.jpg And it begins....... |
That is a very nice car. Now all you have to do is decide which LS motor you want to put in it and what transmission. The 10 bolt rear may or may not be a problem depending on the power level. It is probably a 8.2" but could have been changed out to a 8.5". If so that will solve any horsepower problems. |
I found a complete LS1/60E out of a 2000 SS Camaro locally with approx 62k on it. Also has a complete harness without a connector cut or broke. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/IMAG0329.jpg After seperating the trans and harness http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/IMAG0405.jpg Here is the forcast which is subject to change as it happens with every project and will edit accordingly: ENGINE: 00' LS1 short block LS6 intake Factory casting 243 heads milled .015", cleaned, and valve job w/ new valve seals ARP Head Bolts ARP Crank Bolt BTR hardend pushrods Comp custom grind cam - 227/236 - 614/621 @ 111lsa 108icl Comp cams rocker trunion upgrade LS7 Lifters PAC 1211X valve springs LH8 oil pan/pickup tube GM high volume oil pump LS2 timing chain BRP oil pump girdle Corvette C5 accessories polished polished valve covers chrome coil bolts painted coil brackets (white) painted coils (orange) MSD 8.5mm wires (gray color) NGK plugs BRP LSx motor mounts polished timing cover TRANSMISSION Supierior shift kit corvette 2nd apply servo sonnax billet 4th apply servo billet forward accumulator 1-2 accumulator 3-4 accumulator oversized .490" boost pressure valve kit updated valve body spacer plate Alto red wide 2/4 band w/ reinforced anchor New reverse drum Billet input drum collar Billet forward piston Borg Warner HD (green) 3/4 clutches Kolene coated 3/4 steels Circle D 278mm 3200 stall speed converter Trans cooler w/ custom lines COOLING SYSTEM Entropy LSx Aluminum Radiator w/ fans 160' thermostat Polished LS2 waterpump FUEL SYSTEM FIC LS Series 42lbs Injectors Aeromotive Platinum Polished Billet Fuel Rails Aeromotive X1 Billet Fuel Regulator Aeromotive Stealth EFI 1st gen tank Aeromotive Fittings Aeromotive Fuel PSI Gauge Aeromotive Black Filter 10 Micron Fuel Lines Hardlined EXHAUST BRP 1 3/4 stainless coated LSx headers custom stainless dual (still researching) INTERIOR Remove entire old interior and paint/refresh Cut out and weld in new trans tunnel panel Eliminate any woodgrain TMI seat cushions and covers (black w/white houndstooth) Modified 1st Gen Console with 4th Gen Shifter Factory GM tilt steering column w/ billet levers from GMTILT.com Black carpet Black door panels and other misc panels New glass all the way around American Autowire Dakota Digital VHX Gauges EXTERIOR re-paint: White w/ hugger orange stripes chrome rear bumper billet tailights DSE RS electric hideaway headlights and grill SUSPENSION/STEERING CPP Stage III Pro Touring Kit: Tubular Upper/Lower Control Arms QA1 Coil Springs QA1 Adjustable Front and Rear Shocks Drop Leaf Springs Cal Trac Bars Uni Steer Rack & Pinion BRAKES CPP Stage III Pro Touring Kit: Zinc Coated Drilled/Slotted Rotors Calipers CPP Polished Master Cylinder Hyratech 1st Gen Hydroboost - Polished New Preformed Stainless Brake Lines Front to Rear DIFFERENTIAL/DRIVELINE Clean and paint 8.5" 10 bolt, inspect Richmond ring/pinion, verify 3:73 ratio T/A rear diff cover and bearing cap studs Custom driveshaft again, this is gonna change as the build goes on.... |

Me repositioning the LS1 on the stand. Didnt like how I had it the first time http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0711.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0715.jpg Starting the disassembly http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0717.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0716.jpg And as it sits currently http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0720.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95...o/DSC_0719.jpg plan is to get the core support off and set all wiring back. Then power wash the sub frame. Then start in on the interior removing it to get a better game plan I have the LH8 oil pan, BRP engine mounts, BRP trans x member, and all the C5 accessories. Pics of all this to come with more detail.... |

i've been researching pans as I'm doing a LQ9 into a 69, from what i've seen it hangs about 2in below the crossmember on these first gens, might not be a problem if the car isn't going to be lowered. I see a few guys running the f-body pan with the 1in set back plates and it seems to clear alright, this is the route i'm going to take....anyways keep up the steady work. |
The BRP mounts are taller than most....they are designed to work with the LH8 pan in first gen F-bodies. The 98-02 F-body LS1 pan is the one to use if the engine will sit low in the chassis. It can be used without mods, but the engine has to set back very close to the firewall. |

Keep them pics coming nice build |
Great project, I will be watching to !!! |
I have the brp setup and I am going to be pulling the motor some time down the road to replace the pan. Look at the holley pan for that type of mount. Nice thing is you can keep the stock compressor location. |
