Default Radiator hoses? Custom or do parts stores carry enough variants to find one?

Getting ready to put the engine in the Panoz (see build thread in sig). The radiator is a custom dual pass unit with the inlet/outlet on the passenger side. The radiator will sit further from the engine then you normal F-body/Y-body arrangement. Looking at various pictures I see all different kinds of hose routing and a few that look like they'd work for my application. So are you specing them out and ordering them, or do parts stores carry a bunch of different types? I've never bought a radiator hose other than a replacement upper for a C5 and I bought that through an online site.

Thanks,

Brian

EDIT... I found wrapping paper tube, old radiator hoses, Gorilla tape, and metal pipe to be more accurate than coat hanger. Need to clamp the joints and go hunting. The shapes aren't overly complex.

take a coat hanger and bend it to the approx shape/bends. take it to the parts store and start searching.

O Reilley has a good selection, you might have to get two and join them to make one..

Pep Boys has a great selection.
A few smiles to the nice lady behind the counter, and I was allowed to spend an hour checking out their inventory.

Use a junction to join two smaller ones. You can then drill and tap the junction to run a steam vent and / or temp sensor.

You'll probably have to go to a few parts stores before you find the 'nice lady', or else you'll have to give a few smiles to the fat guy behind the counter.

The people at Oreilly's by me know me by name, so I always get to go in back and pick out the hoses I want, I take a piece of heat riser tubing (the corrugated aluminum kind) bent to the shape I need, and know what sizes the ends need to be, with me and show them and say I need a hose like this, and they always say, you know where they're at!

I might take a different approach with the fat guy behind the counter. Otherwise, he might get the wrong impression. lol

Steam tube goes to the radiator end-tank and the temp sensor is in the back of the passenger side head.

Thanks for the info guys.

I got some nice metal junctions from JTR. They also sell adapters whic worked nice for the 3/4" - 5/8" transition on the heater hoses. They do an adapter that has a bleeder, site glass, and you can get it with the steam vent.

Donuts for the win!

As far as useful input: I had to go thru several parts stores hose inventory to find the hoses for my Nova swap. None of the parts stores around here seemed to mind. Good hunting!

Did the same thing these guys did. 45 minutes later, I came out of autozone with a radiator hose that fit a 93' lexus and 63' Nova with an LS6 Swap. Oh, and a Land Rover lower hose. happy hunting!

for those that may be looking for a good fitting upper hose, you just about can't get any better than this hose here. i'm using this on my thirdgen with an ls swap too, so it's a pretty awesome hose. i see no reason why it wouldn't work with a traditional truck pump also. it won't work with ly6 or ls3 style pump though. gates pn 20893

Guess I was real lucky....stock radiator in my 68 and using the stock truck set-up....just used the truck hoses.
I was thinking of going with the metal flex lines if that didn't work.

Quick Reply: Radiator hoses? Custom or do parts stores carry enough variants to find one?
