Using Renegade Hybrids out of Vegas for parts and LOTS of advice. Check out their website, they've already done a few 996 C4's and are now doing a LS7 Boxster.

Mike,

Yes the CV axle angle would change slightly but that would be no different than putting a three inch lift kit on a truck. People do it all the time without bad results. Lowering the car such as with the GT3 suspension mods also changes this geometry. The worst that could happen is early wear out of cv joints.
I prefer mechanical water pump and PS.

Good luck with your build!

as Mr. Burns would say " Exxxxxcelent "

i see another porsche owner decided to do the right thing

i can't tell from the pics but is the trans a G96 or the regular 996 transmission ? ( is the starter on the bellhousing or on the engine?

if it is a G96 then you can gain about 3 inches if you flip the tranny mount around. this along with minot trimming of the " core support" area that would be facing the engine will let you use the front accessory drive off an LS3 including water pump .

you will still need an electric inline water pump to help move the weater at idle , but the added benifit is you use the stock porsche coolant lines .

as for the shaft angle changing with the tranmission shift , if i recall correctly it only adds 3 degrees to the CV joint's operating angle . ( keep in mind that the 930 style CV joints have an operating angle range of 25 degrees! )

don't be intimidated by the swap , it is seriously easier than you think , almost a bolt in deal and trust me , you WILL have tons of fun in this thing ! it will pull in every gear including 6th !

good luck and keep us posted - that meand lots of pics please !

Thanks for all the support, I was going to start this build thread on one of the Porsche pages, Me not really knowing much about Porsches prior to this. I started by giving MY opinion on the design of the M96 motor, BAD idea. Anyway here's what I've been working on so far. I'm gonna have this car LIKE new before I even install the LS3 motor.

1. Frt Strut spring bearings dried out (Easy take apart and repack after strut dissassemble)
2. Frt strut upper mount assembly rubber cracked and seperated from bushing. $250 a piece. I fixed mine with a 2 part aircraft fuel cell sealant.
3. Strut boots cracked and worn, replaced with a offroad Red shock boot.
4. Transmission to drive shaft Guilbo joint cracked and worn, replaced $70 on E-Bay.
5. C4S Frt axle shafts outer CV boots torn. Hard to find, I bought red universal off E-bay, 4 for $50
6. Transmission mount cracked and worn, resealed with Acft sealant.
7. Flex Brake lines old and cracked. Replaced
8. Frt Hood struts worn out, Ouch on the haed TWICE!
9. Frt lt wheel bearing worn out real bad.
10. Rt rear wheel bearing worn.
11. Radiators pluged with debree

996 349 293 00 dust bellows (transmission side boot)
996 349 291 00 dust bellows (wheel bearing side boot)

The entire parts guide is on the porsche website takes some hunting but has all the diagrams.

1dirtyz - these are the P/n's for the 996 C2 not sure if its the same CV on the turbo 996.

Mike forgot to mention -- 8802 sealant is good for everything.

Does the A10 have polyurethane bladders... F-18 ones can't be sealed with sealant.. just replaced whole ... awful design.

Got the brake lines replaced. Took the front struts apart and checked the wear, still got lots of rebound. will use till the engine swap is complete then replace with ? to get correct ride height and handling.

its a good thing porsche used those garbage engines, otherwise the value wouldn't tank and we couldnt pick them up to put the right engine in it.
This is my dream swap, maybe do it after i get sick of the subaru and turbo TA one day, or get more garage space lol.

Spent the day cutting an access panel in the front of the engine bay, so if ever I have to gain access to the top rear of the LS3 I can. This got me thinking and this might be a dumb question, but so far I haven't looked at an LS motor all that close. Can the intake manifold be turned 180 to face backwards on these motors? If so I'm thinking about mocking up a trick intake system that would use the aft 4" of the back windows for a custom intake scoop. Will post pictures of the access panel in a couple hours.
