Hey.....I have a real mystery on my hands. I rebuilt my lq9 from a 2002 escalade last year. I reused the stock oil pan and although people told me otherwise my motor took 9 quarts to fill it. The other day I got around to putting a new f body pan on and when I went to fill it I put six quarts in and it's barely at the bottom of the dipstick! I'm not exactly sure but I would guess another two quarts would bring it to the full line. Wtf is going on with this motor?

FYI I used all new dipsticks and tubes on both pans and they are gm parts as well. I'm stumped and ready to just keep the six quarts in it and call it good.

I'm starting to get annoyed! Please help!

Oh yeah and I don't have an oil cooler or a bigger oil filter either.

I had the same issues with an LQ9 with vette batwing pan. I also used the vette dipstick and tube. I filled the pan to the 6 1/2 quarts reccomended for the pan and remarked the dipstick.

What part number did you use for the dipstick and tube?

F-body dipstick - 12551581

Yea those are the part numbers i have. I just put the truck dipstick and tube in and with six quarts in the f body pan its about half way in the full range. U guys think i should just remark the dipstick and move on with my life? Lol

Do you have another block you can compare the dipstick boss too? Would be interesting to know why it is different.

In a short answer, yes! But are you sure you have the correct dipstick for the tube? Each tube has it's own stick.

Yeah i checked the part numbers four times and i ordered two fbody tubes but both are the same.

Is the bump on the bottom of the tube supposed to sit on top of the boss on the block or is it supposed to be countersunk? Thinking maybe its not sitting right.

Blocks might be machined differently, tubes seat differently, who knows.
Fill to reccomended capacity for pan, remark.

So weird. Well at least I don't have to worry about ripping the truck pan off anymore.

Last question....the pan is rated for 5.5 quarts....does that include the filter or not?
