Default short style alternator ?

I am looking to mount an alternator on the passenger side in front of the head. does anyone know of an alternator short enough to fit in this location. Im thinking I need something about 5.5" deep. and strong enough to power a street / strip car. (maybe 80 - 90 amp ? )

Have you thought about mounting it backwards?

That is sticking out in front of the drive belt.

It will work in reverse as well as foward.

May give you the room you want.

I'd start looking at import alternators, Honda, Kia, Subaru, Toyota all use pretty small alternators. If you need something really small, look into small aircraft alternators.

Denso alternators are about the smallest I have found. Pulled this one off a 91 celica and bolted on a 5 rib pulley from a 90 something supra. 85 amp, plenty for my carb motor.

Here are a couple of links with dimensions and amperage ratings
