Default 08 5.3L swap into 86 sierra

I'm going to attempt my first engine swap and I was told I could keep my 700r4 tranny and just change flex plates. Is this true? He also told me I could have LT1swap reprogram the computer and do a tranny delete and program it for speed density instead of using a mass air flow sensor. Again is this correct? I know I'll most likely have to fabricate motor mounts or get some adapters. I also need electric cooling fans. But what else do I need to acquire. The guy I'm
Getting the engine from has all the wiring harnesses and computers. Please help!

The 700 will bolt up, but in order to keep a 700r4 from burning up real quick, you have to have the TV cable adjusted properly. That's real hard to do on a drive by wire engine. If I were you I would look for an electronic transmission.

Ok. Well my truck is 4 wheel drive it I found a 4l60e with transfer case and all would it bolt up to what my truck already has? Or is that going to cause a whole mess of issues?

the newer 4l60 4x4 the transfer case front drive shaft is on the wrong side driver side. 1986 is passenger side drop. i have no clue if theres a transfer case flip kit for chevy trucks. hate to disagree with ls1nova71 hes a badass with truck swaps 2wd. but i would suggest axe the drive by wire go cable with 700r4

I had a feeling this was going to be a 4wd. I know that there's an adapter you can get to bolt a np205 to a 4l60e. It would probably be the same bolt pattern as whatever transfercase you have. I'm pretty sure that the newer transfercases that have the driveshaft on the wrong side are completely different bolt pattern than what you have. That's the reason you can't just bolt on a 700r4 tailshaft and have a speedo cable.

As for going DBC, that wont be easy since you have a gen IV engine, the PCM wont support it, and you can't just swap to an older PCM because of the 58x reluctor.

You should be able to use the 4L60E and reuse your existing '86 transfer case if it is an NP208, which is typically what the later years used. Double check your spline counts just to be sure.

That would be nice if my transfer case would bolt up to the 4l60e.ill check my spline count.

Another question. If the 60e bolts up to my np208, would I have to get the same year tranny as the engine and would the computer from the 08 5.3 2x4 work with a 4 wheel drive 60e?

A DBC engine would be easier to hook a TV cable up to for sure. If you go with a 4l60e, it doesn't need to be the same year as the engine. Most 99 and up V8 transmissions will work and your PCM doesn't care if its a 2wd or 4wd. That said, you need to make sure your engine didn't originally have a 6l80 on it. Im not sure when those came out but it was around that time. You would need the PCM reflashed to the 4l60 if that's the case.

So if I got a DBC engine rather than DBW I would be better off if I wanted to keep my 700r4

Another option on the TV cable if you are sticking with the drive by wire, is to route it through the firewall and back to the pedal (I have seen this done a few times) but is going to take some fab.

If you want to go drive by cable on the newer engine (as suggested), you could run a Lingenfelter controller to convert the 58x crank signal to 24x and then run an LS1 controller and drive by cable throttle body. Pretty common swap. Hope that helps.

THe problem with mounting the cable directly to the pedal is that the pedal moves forward, and you need the cable to be pulled. You could maybe figure out how to get it done, but you also have to have the correct geometry, it isn't like a kick down on a 350 turbo, that would be simpler. Also, if you plan to use the DBW cruise control, your TV cable won't be moving at all.

The Lingenfelter controller sounds like the way to go, as long is it isn't super spendy.

Ok say I pull a 5.3,4l60e,computer,and harness from an 05 silverado and mate my np208 to the transmission and get a vss adapter from Dakota digital, and get the PCM tuned for my gear ratio and tire size. What would keep that from working in my truck besides motor mounts and fuel delivery? Am I missing anything?
