Default Need help with removing column shifter

Im about ready to install a floor shifter in my caprice. I need to get the shifter arm off the column. I haven't had any experience doing this and don't want anything bad to come out of it. I researched a little bit and found another forum saying if done wrong my steering column will lock going down the road. I can't find an aftermarket column and i don't think i have enough room for a lokar cable shifter. Any and all help will be appreciated.

You should be able to just pull the pin out of it remove the shifter but then you'll have to make sure that the shift Bowl doesn't turn or else you won't be able to start it if you have a neutral safety switch on the column. Just removing the shifter won't cause the steering wheel to lock.

Thanks, i wasn't for sure if there was anything else involved like taking the steering wheel of and anything inside the column.
