Default ls3+6l80e into 70 nova?

Just picked up a complete l99 out of a 2013 camaro with the 6l80e and am hoping to just put headers, maybe an intake and tune it a bit. I was wondering if anyone has put a 6l80e into a 68-72 nova like mine, and if so did you have to modify the trans tunnel or not? Also would the stock camaro oil pan thats on it now work? Any help would be appreciated!

Just from seeing one, I'd speculate that you'd likely need to massage the tunnel. The case itself aft of the bell housing is pretty hefty. The fluid tube fittings are pretty close with the 4L80e, I can imagine you'd run into issues with the 6L.

Also, I'm interested to see the 5th-gen oil pan- I haven't seen one yet. And I wouldn't worry about an intake- the stocker is a pretty good piece. If you're planning to spend the money, get a cam instead. You can make pretty good numbers with the aftermarket VVT cams offered.

I think there are some threads on the 6L80 into a 1st gen Camaro. Unless the engine is in a forward position (causing other issues), you probably will have to cut the tunnel.

There are some photos of the 5th gen pan here:

It would need heavy modification or replacement to fit the Nova.

You will without a doubt have to build a new tunnel in an effort to achieve the correct driveline angle, and more than likely will need to replace the pan.

just installed a 6l80 in my chevelle , no doubt you will have to cut the tunnel I used a g8 pan and pickup and is still the lowest part of my ride. my advice wouid be to cut the tunnel out so you can clearly see all the clearence issues such as steering, oli pan. trans pan, driveline angle, header or manifold .ect. then do all the mounts ,JOHN

What they said. In my 65 Skylark I had to raise the tunnel up about an inch, maybe a tad more. Not a big deal as long as you are prepared to do it ahead of time. Again for the reasons stated in the above two posts.

Wow that thing's massive! I'd venture you'd need to cut it back to at least the drain plug.

And on the bright side, you'll have most of the floor pan work done when you bore of the auto and decide to put in a third pedal...

Thanks everyone for the info. John 67 how do you like your 6l80? and much hp can it take? Also what shifter are you using? I was looking at the tci paddle shifters, any word on if those are a good route to go?

I do like it but I need to do some work before I can give a better report .I need to change the rear to a 3.08 or 2.90 , currently I have a 3.73 ,a little tall for the 6l80.I did not install the tap up/down shifter as I was in a rush to get the car going again and used my original floor shifter.I did drive it 3700 miles on the power tour only to have the trans overheat on day 2 due to a poorly placed transmission cooler which I fixed bu I basically took it easy on everything for the rest of the trip.not sure on hp ratings , I think the g8 shifter is what some are using . I may look into that when I get back into the car in a few weeks.JOHN

I have seen reports of 600hp. The tune is the all important item.

How did you make the floor original shifter work? I was wanting to keep the floor shifter, but also have the paddles on the wheel, but didn't know if I could do that.

I also have a 2013 l99 & 6l80 what options did you use for driveshaft yolk wondering if anyone used a 400 yolk instead of 3 bolt yolk and eliminate centering stud. I know 400 yolk spline and outside seal diameter is the same. Just wondering if Im missing something Thanks Don
