Default NA 5.3 with an LS9 cam

I've searched around and couldn't fine any results from a NA 5.3 with an LS9 cam. So I went ahead and did it. My setup is a 5.3 with 243 heads milled .030 and the LS9 cam. Shorty headers and a 3 inch single exhaust. Today on the dyno it made 337 to the wheels on a 100 degree day. I'm stoked!! Now for the rear mount turbo!! Just thought I'd share this data. It's in an 83 s10 with 4l60 and 3.08 gears. It's my daily and gets 22 mpg. Idles at 550 smooth. Hope this is helpful to someone looking for a budget cam.

Sounds like very respectable numbers. I bet it will work well with a turbo.

The build specs are: stock 2004 5.3 bottom end, 243 heads milled .030 LS9 head gaskets and cam LS3 timing cover and LS2 cam gear, shorty headers and single 3 inch exhaust, truck intake. Nothing really special. Saveing for the rear mount turbo setup. Id like to see 450-475 at the tire at 10 lbs of boost.

Impressive! sounds like a badass little truck.

As for the cam results, Id like to see back to back single 75 or 80mm turbo with the LS6 cam vs the LS9 cam. That woulds get a lot of hits me thinks haha.

It idles like stock. Definatly a sleeper Ill do a walk around vid later and post a link.

Thanks cam its just my daily and I did everything on a super tight budget. Its probably one of the funest trucks Ive built. Super quiet and quicker that anyone ever expects it to be. Ive been flipped off by more srt8 owners that you imagine.

Sounds great. I have a LS7 cam in my L92 and it sounds stock as well. It also pulls 20 inches of vacuum at idle...LOL

Thanks guys I'm hoping for high 4s or real close to 500 rwhp at 10 lbs of boost.
Cam Ive talked to lots of people about which cam is the best for boost general results are @ 30 rwhp gain with the LS9 over the LS6 cam. Thats why I went with it.

Thats going to be a real sleeper ! Looks like solid old truck , solid rust free old body stlye S10 are hard to find were I live. What the CR , Im surprised you did not go with 317 heads for your turbo build.

I used the 243 heads and had them milled just to keep compression around 9.5 so it should still work well with boost.

Very nice, I'm running the LS9 cam in my 5.3 too. My whole car is disassembled right now though. What were you able to run timing wise and what rpm did HP peak?

Have you done any tuning on this combo, or did you just run it on a stock calibration?

Ideally asking if the cam was dialed in, or was this a result of just sticking it in there?
