Default 1970 chevelle lq4 single turbo build thread

ok so ive done some work to my car after a few months of research, this will be somewhat of a slow build so just hang tight.

back story is I got this car when I was 14 ( im 23 now ) it had a 454 and a th400 when bought my dad took the rat motor and put it in a prostreet chevy 2 he had when I was around 19 he sold me the 454 back I installed it and drove it for a while til I wiped the cam and sent it to the machine shop which brings me to now, I always thought ls engines were neat but had the pre conceived notion that it would be expensive and a difficult task at hand til I met a guy at a car show that told me how powerful reliable and stout these motors were. I went to my local pick and pull and found an 06 chevy van I got to here it run , checked the fluids and gave the man 1300 for it with all accessories. I started watching youtube videos and found the famous DENMAH and from there was hooked on a turbo build so I ordered one for this project the plans are as follows

. lq4 stock bottom end
.tu1 speed cam ( bought from a forum member)
.comp springs and pr
.ebay gt45 turbo
.microsquirt aftermarket ecm tuned by me using a denmah base tune
.th350 with 3.73 rear
. not sure on on either making a log style hotside or flipping the truck mannys

so far I have got the engine and trans mocked up yesterday using dirty dingo mounts and a holley pan

Whats your hp goal? The th350 might not last long. And you might want to put a taller gear in down the road.

I wouldn't worry all that much about the TH-350. Yea, they are weak, but they hold up against low HP Big Blocks, so I would run it for a while and see how it goes. And they are a dime a dozen so if it does grenade, you can just swap it out for cheap.

I think your right I need to get this thing rolling lol, how do I post good pictures that won't show up as small thumbnails ? Most all pics I take are with my iPhone . I will give a quick run down. This project sat due to lack of funds I thought this would be a complete budget build however I was wrong! Currently the engine sits where it needs to be with everything hooked up besides cold pipes . I have a th400 being built with a transbrake and more then likely a ptc converter , got a set of 275 mickeys for out back and hooked up my fuel lines ( combination of alumium and rubber hope that's ok) I have my microsquirt in place and will be tuning my own car so I'f you run that system chime in!!

I host all my pics on photobucket then post the url on this site so they show up as full pics in the thread.

They all start out as budget builds, but pretty quickly get out of hand lol

The rubber and aluminum lines should be fine depending on where you plan on racing it, some tracks have a limit on how much rubber fuel line you can have.

I don't run microsquirt, but would be glad to help in anyway that I can. You could always hit Denmah up for help on the microsquirt too.

Thanks for the motivational push! My Trans is done just waiting on a converter now! Over the weekend I finished up the lines running from my engine to corvette filter to the tanks inc tank . I will mess around with bucket tonight and start uploading some nice photos ! Got my Trans lines done to . I have to pull the seats out and weld in the proper tracks for my ss buckets so they don't sit funny

No problem. That's what it takes, just knocking a couple things out at a time.
