LS2 alternator smaller? Is it plug n' play with LS1 wiring?

LS2 alternator smaller? Is it plug n' play with LS1 wiring? I'm moving my alternator on my C5 road race car to where the AC used to be. The 2001-2004 C5 alternator is a little too large. It appears the LS2 alternator has a slimmer case but the same bolt spacing? Will it just plug in or are the electronics different? I'm getting conflicting info.
LS1/6 alternator - Case has a "gap" in it and is overall larger

Trying to avoid having to do this...
Because here it fits... and this appears to be a LS2 alternator
