I read different things, especially on vendor descriptions of things for the engine, like "This will not work on "insert car" LS engine".

I have a GM part number 19301326 LS3 sitting in the crate still, and have been shopping around for ideas for different things, such as, for example, rail lcovers, etc. I do know it is a Gen IV LS3.

What would I consider this engine to be? Any ideas?

Well it would be out of a vette or camaro or one of the G8s I think but I'm not sure exactly what your asking.

I have an LS2 crate motor and it is essentially a 2005 vette motor.

I believe the LS3 was first installed in the 2008 vettes. That crate has vette accessories. So for ordering parts and such just tell them you have a 2008 vette motor.

I agree, 08+ Corvette. It says in the description that it includes the corvette wet sump oil pan, and if you want to use in non-corvette applications you have to purchase the wiring harness and different flexplate..

Thanks. I was thinking '08 Corvette. On some parts listings, like one at AMerican Car Craft for Fuel Rail Covers, it lists them for 2008-13 Corvette, but then says:

I'm not sure what a Z06 or ZR1 is. It's interesting, because listing a 2008 - 13, it seems to me, would preclude Z06 automatically, as I think that ended in 2004 (according to one Wiki I read...but then in info I read on 2008 Corvette engines, it DOES list a Z06 for 2008 at 505hp). And in another article, it lists the ZR-1 as the predecessor to Z06.

Can get confusing, and never know what info is accurate.

Z06 has an LS7 motor while the ZR1 has the LS9. One is 427 cubes and the other is supercharged.

Yup... this.

Sometimes they might list that it can't be used in a particular car because of space, or because of the accessory brackets that year and model of car used. This doesn't mean you CAN'T do it... just that those pieces in THAT car won't work. You'd need to do more research on the particular part. Hope that helps!

The ZR1 debuted as a model in 1990 in the 4th Generation (C4) corvettes, and they were made through 1995. Those had an LT5 5.7L DOHC Motor.

The Z06 made its debut as a model in 2001 in the 5th generation (C5) Vettes, and ran until 2004 with the LS6 5.7L motor.

The Z06 returned in 2006 for the 6th Generation (C6) in 2006 and ran through 2013 with the 7.0L LS7 Motor (That's why certain parts were saying that they wouldn't work with a Z06 car, entirely different motor and a lot of different parts all over the car compared to a base LS3 car).

The ZR1 returned for the C6's in 2009 (hadn't been around as a model since 1995, no C5 ZR1's were ever made). This has a 6.2L Supercharged LS9 Motor.


I believe the ZR1 name technically came about in the C2 corvettes, but was an RPO code and not a "model" per se, and I think the same goes for the Z06 moniker, but I may be mistaken.
