Mine as well start My build thread for my 91 notch 5.3
Hey guys, just getting into the beginning stages of this build and im very excited to see how this turns out. Im coming from a big block ford setup so this is all new to me.
Here is the car that im using 91 notch, Aje K member and tubular front end, built 8.8 with 4.10s
I picked up a 5.3 lm7 shortblock from a buddy for 150 and started to tear it apart to see how it looked. The bearings looked very good all around, the pistons need a little elbow grease to clean up but im on my way to a nice build. The block goes out this week to get hot tanked at my buddies shop and then painted so i can order what i need to put the shortblock back together. Im doing a stock shortblock with fbody pan ( atleast thats what i read will fit my k member, a set of ported 806 heads and an NX3 cam from Member FASTFB!!! it will have a carbed intake and a 750 dominator with a 200-250 shot on it with a trans specialties glide with a brake and 4500 stall. I think the hardest part will be to figure out what i need to mate up the glide to the motor with the flexplate and the longer bolts and what not.
more pics!

Rob,
Looking into this a little deeper, Now knowing the block is a LM7. A person would have go with a flat top piston or get a head that's closer to that 59cc chamber to get your compression up where you would want it and keep the quench correct. Lets say your piston to deck clearance is .004 to get a .040 quench you would have a compression ratio of around 9.0.1 with a 66cc head. If were to go with a set of flat tops with -2cc in the motor you would be at 9.6.1 that would be with a 66cc chamber head, which you could clean those heads up to 66cc. I am not sure how much compression you are looking to be at? Just thought I would throw this at you. If you went with a 59cc head and flat tops you would be at 10.5.1. I am using a .004 piston to deck height when I am figuring these ratio's with a .040 quench. I will throw you a text and we can talk.

The block is getting hot tanked tomorrow, my heads and cam package from FASTFB will be here tomorrow, grabbed a load of parts from a local Ls guy oil pan complete assembly, cloyes timing kit, water pump, altenator, valley cover and so on. Only thing left to purchase is headers which im not sure if i want dynatech or hooker, and head gaskets and a gasket kit. . Getting close!!!! Oh and get the driveshaft fitted.

welp im alittle behind now. bought my shortblock with a crank that had broken off balancer bolt in it. first buddy wasnt able to get it out hopefully my other friend can or i gotta get another crank. Been having a hell of a time trying to locate one. Autozone and advanced have remans that come with new main and rod bearings for 260 so that may be what i need to do i guess... never fails!!!!
