Default LS3, 430hp upgrade?

Hi!
A friend of mine has a LS3 430hp crate engine.
HeŽd like 500+ hp.
What to do?

What kind of ECU is needed? (doesnŽt have one)
Also,... what camshaft would You recommend?
RPM range approx. 1500-6000

The car is used as a daily driver and occasional autocross driving.

Chevelle -66, LS3, T56.

Thanks. Mike.

Go buy a chip on ebay.
Even smarter: Go talk to an engine shop. Don't trust random internet guys.

ls3 hotcam with springs, headers, cai, tune, and your there and then some likely. by just adding the gmpp ls3 hotcam the ls3 transforms into 480hp in factory specs.

Super Chevy did an article in 2008 about LS1 and LS2 upgrades. They took a stock 405hp LS2 and added headers, and dynoed it at 462hp. I would imagine an LS3 with headers, a tune, and maybe a cold air intake would be creeping up on 500hp

The 430HP LS3 has been dynoed many times over the years by different sources. If I remember right, all of the figures were between 489 and 511 HP. The 430 HP rating is a very conservative rating by GM.

I've seen a dyno test of LS3 with the HOT cam producing around 520HP. I don't remember the exact figure but it was between 520 and 530.

The dyno test of the LS3 with a HOT cam appeared in a previous issue of "GM High Tech Performance" It was a LS cam test article and there were many cam choices that were better than the GM HOT cam, although most of the others cams required new valve springs.

Friend of mine had an 08 Vette with 40K on the clock. He added a cold air
intake Long tube headers with a ZO6 factory cat-back exhaust. He called
Texas Speed and the shipped him a 231/237 @ .050" cam with .6xx lift,
push rods, and a dual spring kit. That's all he did and it dyno tuned at 489 horsepower RW.

Thanks. for the answers.

I think we wait with the camshaft swap for now.
Cold air intake and long tube headers would be a good start.

One question about the ECU.

If we buy the 19258270-GMPP LS3 Controller kit LS376/430.
contains pre-programmed ECU.

Is it possible to reprogram this ECU, if we decide to replace the camshaft to get the 500+HP?

Mike.
