I have a LH6 that I'm putting in my dad's 64 Impala. I'm currently painting it now.

It is a mild set-up with a LS6 intake, 862 heads, and a LS2 cam. With the flattop pistons, I calculated the compression to be around 10.5:1. It should be a decent performer with a set of headers.

I just picked up a nearly zero mile LH8 for my Cougar build. Pretty excited about it...

Why swap the heads? the heads on the factory L33 heads are 799s which are the same castings as the ls6 heads minus the sodium filled valves. Just swap the complete L33 with maybe a cam swap and enjoy. The factory L33 cam is actually a good cam for boost or nitrous. Yes there are better ones out there but the cam that's already in the engine is basically free if you bought a complete engine. I have an L33 that I'm leaving stock other than a moroso oil pan and modified ls1 manifolds. I bought it complete from the Maf to the oxygen sensors, with the harness and ECM for $1200 with 42,000 miles on it. It's going in a 2000 zr2 s10 with a 70mm turbo. The L33 weighs basically the same as the iron 4.3 and since my truck uses torsion bars, that just one less head ache. The manifolds are left over from where I put long tubes on my 02 ws6. I'll likely use the fans from my o2 ws6 also since I replaced them because one fan acted dead and I got a really good deal on a whole new set of fans and shroud. It's just a dead wire keeping the driver side fan from running. I'm going to remote mount the turbo with a stand alone oiling system including a cooler. The air charge will be intercooler too with the same fan. If the turbo goes it cant take out the engine and if the engine goes it will be hard for it to take the turbo out with it. The turbo is on the small side because I want boost to come on early and only want it to hold boost to the factory redline. I'm only looking for around 10psi anyway and if it drops down some close to redline it won't hurt my feelings. This turbo should be just the right size to do what I'm asking of it. The L33 is a great engine. It's basically a small ls6. Alot of guys here in Darlington pull 5.3s (mostly lm7) junk yard engines and put the same 70mm or a 76mm turbo on them and put them in everything from old 5.0 mustangs to cutlass' and run damn good times with them. Quite a few are at or over 20psi on the stock bottom end. The 5.3 is a very valid replacement for the tried and true 350. It doesnt take much at all to make 400rwhp with a lightly modded N/A 5.3 and a manual transmission. It's all the slush box stalled autos with 9" rear ends that have a hard time getting to the 400 mark.

Let's not carelessly throw falsehoods around...

Please tell me how to make 400rwhp with only "light" modifications with a NA 5.3L.

I took a stock l33 had the heads milled to get right at 10.5 put trunnion upgrade in and a tsp 228r cam double roller timing chain ported ls6 oil pump bought a used ls6 intake with injectors fuel rails and tbody tsp 1 7/8 long tubes with duel 3” back to two spin tech race mufflers with a 6 speed and 411 gear in a 93 z28 it made 423 at the wheels on a dynojet

My point is that I basically did a cam only because everything else except having the heads milled is just better replacement parts

No buddy I didn’t why do you think that is out of the question.ls1 make 400 all the time with a cam only so what if the l33 has less cubes it has better heads.the right cam with the right amount of air coming in and going out with the right tuning is all it takes.i guess you wouldn’t believe my n/a 408 gto don’t make 500 at the wheels either.i have been playing around with these motors since the day they came out.i bought a brand new 98 z28 and starting tearing in the motor the next week who needs a warranty was my thinking.

Well considering you sound like a 5th grader, seems even less believeable. Also I have an L33 with a bigger throttle body and bigger cam than a tsp228 on a healthy motor that even surprised my dyno guy and “only” put down 375 also through an M6 on a dynojet - albeit a really old one with the big *** heavy rollers. But still, I find it very hard to believe you found nearly 50 more hp than I did when the only difference is you have 1-7/8 to 3” dual and I have 1-5/8 to 2-1/4” dual. Maybe that size difference would matter if we were in the 600+ hp range but not down here.

Stock gen 4 5.3 (Gen 4 truck intake, 243 heads, flat tops) with long tubes and a 222/225 cam made 430 on the engine dyno.

Probably ~360whp on a dynojet with am M6. A cam alone isn't going to get that extra 40 horsepower, but a cam and headwork would probably get it close.

That's way more realistic. I have a LH8 in my Cougar. Made 325rwhp...T56...Ford 9"... Best trap speed is 107 @ 3400 race weight.

I wish I was still in the 5th grade and not have a care in the world but I retired from the usmc 3 years ago iam probably one of the oldest on here. I don't care who believes what I say if any of you have ever heard of hawks motorsports formally hawks third gen look us up on YouTube and you can watch all of the cam only 400+hp cars on the dyno. One thing about being in the military for 20 years is the respect we have towards the fellow man.if someone tells me they have a house made of gold who iam I to tell them they don't.point is every motor is different every tuner is different and depends on the weather and the altitude.it seems everyone wants to be the know it all for reasons that shouldn't matter this is the best country but some of the worst people

You have to know, 8.Lug likes to come across as a knowitall with a 100# chip on his shoulder. If he doesn't know it, neither does anyone else. There are times when he sounds fairly knowledgeable and others just comes across as an *******. Know who you are dealing with. You know what you know, and stick with it! And yes, this IS a great country, it just needs to be made as great as it can be!

You really need to look in the mirror sometimes.

I have no problem being a dick, I'm well aware of it and am perfectly OK with it - but you're the one that's also a dick yet feels the need to point my actions out without ever looking at yourself. Clearly you justify your own actions by pointing out mine. It's actually a classic case of transference - you should read this.
