Default Gen 4 5.3 vortec issues?

I'm looking at a 5.3 with a 4l60e from a 97 truck or tahoe or something, has 80,000 miles on it. I'd like to swap it into a 74 blazer. Can anyone think of a reason that I should go with a gen 3 vortec engine instead? Someone told me I would have major computer problems or something like that. Thanks fellas.

I'm confused. A 97 truck or tahoe would have a gen1 small block, not a 5.3. 99-07 trucks had gen3s, 2007-up are gen4. What are you asking specifically?

Aaah. I meant 2007, not 97. I'm an idiot.

2007 was an odd year, they made both gen3 and gen4's depending on what body style of truck it was in. Either one will work for your swap though. The gen4 you generally loose some functions like cruise control, and PCM controlled A/C, but not a deal breaker by any means.

So it might be a gen 3, good to know. If it is a gen 4 and I can't run PCM AC, can I still have AC relatively easy? What is PCM anyway?

PCM - Powertrain Control Module (computer). You can run your A/C separately from the PCM, it will work just fine, and the PCM will adjust the idle to compensate for the load on the engine.
