Default 5.3 to ls1??

I was told I could make my 2005 5.3 into an ls1. If that's the case what do I need to do to make it happen

Bore it out and probably replace the rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons, etc). New LS car style intake, accessories to fit.

If your are that ambitious I encourage you to look into a turbo. You'll get more power and more wow factor showing off the turbo than saying you did a bunch of work to make your engine an LS 1.

It would be a lot of work for .4L. Plus when you tried to show it off and told the story people would probably just laugh about all the money spent for basically no gain. Easier and cheaper to just swap in an ls1.
Turbo would be way cooler (and a lot less pointless).

If all you want is extra displacement, swap to a 6.0 LQ4 or LQ9. Lots easier and less money. The turbo idea has lots of merit and the potential is huge.

You won't gain enough to make it worthwhile...put a turbocharger on it and kick-***.
