Default probably another newbie 911 call

Im sorry if this has been covered somewhere, my search phrasing probably sucks!
I am stripping a 2000 gmc 1500 to harvest the 4.8/ 4L60 combo, i need to know how much of the wiring harness i need to save from inside the cab?
is there a tcm? or is the shifting controlled thru the pcm?
if its thru the pcm, can i just save 16-18 inches of wire at the obd2 plug?
again I am really sorry if this has been covered,
When i get closer to the actual swap i'll try to get some kind of a build thread up
Thank you for any and all replys!!

Default pcm operates trans

Get as much of the harness as possible, you can cut it back later. The PCM is necessary to run the trans.

If your only using the motor and trans for a swap the Interior cab wiring will be virtually useless.

Once striped down the engine harness and PCM are all you need. It can then be wired to a few fused links/ relays and an obd2 port can be wired in.

Google search LS1 stand alone wiring harness and look at the images for a better understanding.

There are places that offer to strip down and re-wire for you Or you can purchase a stand alone harness that's all new and already set up for your needs.

thanks, i did see the pics of the standalone harness, but was unsure if there was anything inside i would need, a bit of self doubt.
I am going to try to do the harness myself first, i may have someone reprogram the pcm, but i would rather buy a program and learn that side too.

If it is DBW get the pedal and associated harness. It is also a good idea to take the OBD port and wires as well. I would go so far as taking the fuse/relay box as well. You wont use it, but it makes a good guide as to the fuse values and the extra fuses will save a few bucks.
