Default 5.3 swap 63 Bel Air help

How's it going the name's Josh and i'm new to the site and looking for a bit of advice. I'm looking to swap a 5.3/4l60e into my 63 Bel Air 4 door, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about this kind of swap? Like what all is needed and what would be required to bolt it in. Also any tips or suggestions on any kind of simple mods (bolt on, simple tunes, exhaust) would be great appreciated. Also does anyone know of a website that might have more info on my swap?

There is no short list on what is needed. There are probably more ways to do it then to count LoL. But for real I would start with figuring out what trans your going to use. Then look into mounts and what oil pan. Knowing what trans your using can limit placement of the motor a bit, then figure out what motor mounts and oil pan best compliment your set up. wile figuring this out try to keep in mind what your doing for exhaust and accessory drive because all use different realestate in the engine bay. So start doing some homework LoL and good luck.

F body oil pan- will have to dimple cross member in two locations in back
Trans crossmember- 700r4 cross member from bowtie overdrive
swap plates- I use cheap ebAy plates but many seem to use adjustable dirty dings plates
Exhaust manifolds- 2010-present camaro or shorty s10 swap headers
inline pump with corvette regulator/filter
Accesories- I'm cheap so I use the truck accessories
if dbc- use aftermarket pedal for 67-69 camaro. According to S&P it bolts right in
Purchase stand alone harness or hack your own harness

Hope this helps

Im putting a single turbo 5.3 gen 4 in my 64 Bel Air 2dr. For motor mounts, Dirty Dingo are the best mounts I've seen. The 4l60e might require some opening to your trans tunnel. You'll need to buy the 7in brake booster to clear the #7 engine coil. PM Denmah, he is a wealth of knowledge and will answer most questions you have. He has done three Fairmont ls turbo swaps on a cheap budget. He has a website with all the swap info called sloppy mechanics. Hope this helps. I'll be watching your build thread!

He guys thanks a bunch, and i'm really looking to keep it fuel injected and i would like to use a 4l60e for the tranny. But sadly I've hit a bump in the road on a few of my bills so it'll but a couple of months before i can really get this thread and project back on track. But if u guys have any other suggestions i would greatly appreciate it. I plan on doing on starting it on a major budget. I'm going to just start with the truck acc. for now and i think ima just use the cheap ebay mounts for now and once i get something done to the bottom end then i'll worry about doing more to the motor.

I'll be running dirtydingo motor mounts, fbody pan, th350 fully built trans, north texas conveter, fully built stock rearend, and a single s475 turbocharger. I bave read on different forums that on the x frame cars, some have to clearance the cross member and some dont. I guess it depends on which motor mounts you use. All seem to run the 98-02 fbody pan. Any clearance clarification would be very helpful. My frame is completely done so I dont want to cut and hammer on my powder coated frame. Thanks guys

I have a 64 impala with 327 and 700r4. Used bowtie overdrive trans cross member did not have to cut on the frame. Fit nice with plenty of room. The 700r4 and 4l60e are the same dimensions.

Sbc 327. Doing a 5.3 4l80e swap into a 62 biscayne wagon soon. I know the old 400th fits without issues but will see on the 4l80e.

Hey guys thanks for all great info, but i'm wanting to get it done for as cheap as possible i have a mechanic that'll do the work. Do you guys have/know any prices/part #s. And if anyone would like to show off a few pics of their ride or lsx swap i would love to see what/how you guys went about it.

Ok i'm trying to make sure i got this right this list is the bare minimum ill need just for a simple drop in not anything fancy?

Where would be a good place to look for the fbody pan, and what exactly do you mean by dimple ?

So a cross member for a 700r4 from bowtie overdrive to bolt the 4l60e

Cheap $35 ebay plates. Stock location or +-1"?

Any recommendations on the headers? I found a pair on ebay for around $250

And an inline pump w/ corvette filter/reg. Where do you think i would the best deal online or local part store?

Sorry for asking you to dumb it down anymore than you have. I'm just on a serious budget for the time being, and just trying to get the essentials straight.

Can pick up a used f body pan here at in parts classified. Usually $150-$200.
it will be obvious where you need to hammer the cross member down at when installing motor
stock location ebay mounts
700r4 bowtie overdrive crossmember will work on 4l60e
Headers can be between 190-250 on ebay
Walbro inline pump $50-$100 and corvette filter/regulator $30-$45 can be had on ebay or here in parts classifieds
