Default 4l60e in a Ford Neutral safety switch help

I am almost finished with the wiring side of my lq4 4l60e combo in my 97 mustang. Can anyone tell me a way I can wire up a neutral safety switch?

What I did was to use the factory switch which is mounted on the shifter shaft on the outside of the transmission. You can buy the switch at Auto Zone but finding the plugs is another story. GM seals them so you must use a heat gun to melt the sealant to remove the plugs.

I figured out which two wires were for the starter circuit with a multimeter. Then one wire goes to ground and the other goes to pin 85 of a standard relay. Wire coming from the key "start" position goes to pin 30 with a jumper to pin 86. Pin 87 goes to the starter solenoid. This will take most current off the neutral safety switch on the trans because I didn't think it would stand up to the demands. Have not looked to see if GM uses a relay or not.

Here is a scan of the starting circuit from the truck my trans came from. Looking at this I should put 12v to the pink wire going into the switch on the side of the trans and then hook the dark green wire to the ford starter relay? The PNP switch is in the middle of the page. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks. You may have to save it and blow it up.

Your schematic says 2005, so I assume that's the year of your trans and switch? I tried saving it to blow it up, but it doesn't get clear so I really can't see it too well. Does it have one big connector or two smaller ones? if it has one big one, the way I've done them in the past was to hook the wire coming from the ignition switch to the purple wire #12 on the pig tail. Then, there should be a light green wire in #9 that will go to the starter relay position 86. 85 goes to ground, 87 goes to constant battery power and 30 goes to the starter it's self.

I don't know if you are trying to use the starter solenoid on the fender (or if they even have them as late as 97?) but when I tried it on my '84 crown vic, it would hang the starter in for a second after starting, so I bypassed it and ran the starter wire straight to the starter and all was fine.

It has a small square plug with 4 wires that go to the pcm then it has a larger plug with several wires that are not connected to anything. It will run without it hooked up but it doenst have any back up lights or safety features. Normally that wouldnt bother me but the car already has a big dent in the dore where I crunk the donar vehicle up in gear and ran into it LOL. I need to get the pigtail off the trans and see what the colors are on it. I was told it was from a 05 silverado.

A 2005 would have one big plug with the numbers I posted. It sounds like a 99-04 which has two plugs. If you look closely at the plug there should be letters where every wire is that dictate what wires are what. Should be a yellow wire in pin G and a purple and white wire in pin E. The purple/white wire would hook to your ignition switch (from the column) and the yellow wire would go to the relay, and the rest would wire the same as I posted in the other post.

You are the man. Thanks for your help. I was told it was an 05 but that doesnt mean its true. Ill get my lazy but under there today and make sure of the colors. So the purple/white wire is the input from the ignition switch and the yellow wire is the output in park and neutral? Thanks again. Maybe this post will help others in the future also

If its a '99-'04 then yes, thats what all my schematics show. The yellow wire is the trigger wire for the starter relay, not sure if the NSS will handle the load by it's self with out it.

OK ls1nova71 you are correct so far on the wiring. Ill have 2 greens, one pink, and one black/white wire left. can I use a combination of those to make my back up lamps work?

Yes you can. The pink will be the ignition power to the switch, it will go in pin C, the light green wire in pin F will go to the back up lights.
