Default Automotive Club Fox Body LS project at school

Started work on this project with the Automotive Technology Students at school. I started the group this year so we could have something fun around and plan on racing it when it's together.( I am the Sophomore instructor at North Iowa Area Community College)

Naturally, I'm having the kids LS swap it. I mean, why wouldn't I! We have a stock bottom 5.3 LM7 using all ARP Fasteners donated to the club. The best bolts out there and a top notch company to work with. We will be using a BRP Hotrods Mount kit to bolt the LS in place. They have some amazing products for all kinds of LS swaps and more. Check them out.

We also just had a EFI LIVE V2 Flash scan unit with credits donated by Donna Blackmore at EFI LIVE. I have been very partial to HP Tuners, but with the help from EFI Live and there amazing forum, I have become a huge fan. Living here in Iowa, there is a ton of Diesel stuff around here so I think it will be used more than I think!

We are running a 76mm Turbo and a built 4l60e transmission. Still looking for some donations for injectors and fuel, maybe some of the shops on here want to help the College Auto Club out????!!!!! We really need a harness too!

We finally got our dyno installed too. I have been training a couple select students some tuning fundamentals and they have so much fun on it. If anyone needs Dyno time and live's close to the we can rent it out by the hour and day depending on schedule time. The school will only rent the dyno, not tune.

ARP stuff is great, but if you put rod bolts in I would have the rods measured. A lot of times they egg shape when tightened down. Strong as hell, but don't work very well when the crank won't spin!

I would have the students rework a stock harness. IMO that is the part of my swap I'm most proud of and it isn't that hard. But if dlove is going to donate one, nobody would complain about that. Props to you for going LS, it's a smart decision!

Email sent.

Its guys and gals like you, and amazing companies like Painless Performance that make this a reality for the students. Not many college's get to do this, so we are very happy with the help we get. As always, we can't spend a lot of our own funds on things like this, we keep funds generated towards tools and equipment these guys will see in dealerships, independent shops and franchises. But projects like this are what keep these guys all motivated and interested in our auto community.

We have two students building the engine at a local machine shop, working with the machinists there on the rebuild to be sure everything will meet our needs. Thank you for the knowledge though, all input helps us.

We did make our own run stand harness's. One Drive By Cable, and One Drive By Wire. (The students disassemble and rebuild one 5.3 or 4.8 in our engine repair class and run it as a part of their final test in the class) They both work amazing, but I cannot get the amazing looks, and ease of install that companies such as Painless Performance can provide. There products are over the top and make everything so much easier.

Thanks!

Hopefully this week we can get the hotside of the turbo setup made and start on the fuel system. We are going to switch to a new Mustang fuel tank so we can do dual 340lph pumps in tank.

Here's a couple of pics of the 1931 Model A Coupe we LS swapped last Spring for my father in law. We did a twin turbo 4.8 with 4l60e. This was a fun one, and the students wanted one of their own after this!

Busy week here at school. We got the engine back out from the test fitment and torn down to a short block. The engine is going to a machine shop locally where a couple students will be building it with the machinist's.

We also able to get some new donations both in the mail this week, and some vendors sent products out this week. Big thank you to dlove as he is sending a PAINLESS WIRING Harness our way! This will make the wiring part very easy and save a ton of time. I will be sure to post pics of how easy the install was and how clean the install is. The students that will install this will have never done it before, so if they can with little experience, I must believe the general amount of members on here can too.

The other company that has came through this week is SQUEEZE Performance. Mike Page from Squeeze Performance is donating the flanges we need for the hotside along with flex joints, and associated v bands. I will be sure to post pics.

Couple updates! Engine ready to go together. Pleased to say we will be using a Brian Tooley Racing Camshaft kit! This should yield us some great power and give us a pretty nasty sound!

We got our transmission finished and all painted up. After the camshaft shows up the engine goes back in and we start building our hotside of the turbo kit with our parts from SqueezePerformance.com.

Thanks! If your ever up to sending anything over, we have a truck we are putting a cam/nitrous setup on and woul dlove to try your products on it. I would love to work with you on getting some DiabloSport stuff going! We have a basic and advanced tuning class coming up at the college here on Christmas break and another during spring break. It would be cool to show off what your tuning equipment can do.

Got our camshaft installed. Brian Tooley Racing custom grind camshaft with BTR Pushrods, Dual Valve springs, seats, seals, retainers, locks and shims!!!! This thing is going to breath well and sound amazing. Used our ARP head studs and bolted the heads down. Very pleased to say we are using an Edelbrock Victor Jr. Intake manifold along with a set of Edelbrock Billet Fuel rails and an Edelbrock Intake Elbow. Should flow very well when all together!

Our Painless Performance Wiring harness came in last week too. I am very excited to use this over other harnesses I have used. This thing is truly a nice piece. The quality of work here is the best I have seen yet. I can't wait to get it on the engine and show finished pics with it all wrapped up and looking sharp! The students literally laid it out on the engine and found every spot it needed to be connected in less than five minutes, very easy to get on. Now we just need to get it routed around the car and get it started up! Top notch place to get harnesses if you want quality.

Just a quick couple pictures here of another truck we are LS swapping in our spare time. This one is our Division Chairs truck. Its a 1937 International Series D. He wanted a nice driver, but nice old OEM look outside. So, I out our foam LS engine and the gutted 4l60 and the students stuck it in place. With zero modification minus a new transmission cross member the engine fits. Stock manifolds will fit between the rails even! The stock floor pan clears the trans with zero modification too.

This truck also got a 8.8 Ford Differential swap and a nice set of Model A disc conversion brakes on the front. We had to mill the original "I" beam down and bore it a little to, luckily our Tool & Die Dept was able to make it all fit together fine. This thing is gonna rock when its all done!

Just about to start back up here at school, figured I would start the new semester with a little update. We got the hotside piping all done, intake elbow and TB on, and wiring harness finished. The harness from PAINLESS WIRING was awesome! Went on great and fitment is the best I have ever had with an aftermarket harness. The exhaust flanges and flew joints from Squeezeperformance.com worked amazing too. We also boxed and bared the front frame.

Getting very close to finishing this and getting to drive it! The students are itching away to fire it up and tune it. Still needing an intercooler and some fuel components but should be ready to run soon!
