All Out Forgotten Budget Third gen LS Swap
#141
Yeah I'm trying to find an alternative to that... Photobucket updated their user agreement so that if you want to use them as a host for third party sharing you'll have to give them $400/year. So I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative and I'll update every picture in the build. Sorry about that!

Well, I've been working on things every here and there, mostly on getting wiring finished up. I have the whole harness pretty much ready to go besides hooking the fuse block into the harness (which is what the jumble of wires is in the bottom left hand corner of the full harness pic attached below) so here's some pictures of the harness pretty much done!
Here is a picture of the engine bay side of the harness
This one is of the under-the-dash side, including fuse block wires, 2-step and coil plugs, and the PCM connectors
Here is the whole harness, notice the jumble of wires in the lower left. That will be the fuse block, as well as wires going to dash hookups for tach, vehicle speed, oil pressure, and ECT.

FINALLY have updates.... sorry, I moved into an apartment with my fiancé and then we got married back in October so I’ve just been busy and finances have been tied up with other things... but I got my fall bonus from work so I was able to buy something. My torque converter!! Circle D 245mm billet front, short pilot to work with the long crank LQ4, 4000-4200 stall hahaha. Here’s pictures! Also thanks to my wife for letting me open this up on our living room carpet to take a look at it!

I worked the first part of Saturday morning and then went straight home and Cody helped me put in my transmission!
Heres everything laid out before install
Here’s test fitting the torque converter onto the JW flex plate. I used the outer most bolt holes on the front of the converter and the short pilot that Circle D put on made it fit perfect!
After everything’s been put in, I had a bunch of pictures to put in as always lol here’s after everything had been put in. Before I put in the converter bolts, I had exactly 1/8” clearance between the converter and flywheel which is what circle D said the clearance should be.
And this one is just because I thought it was funny how we had to level the engine to make sure the transmission and converter were completely flush with each other before putting in the bolts haha.

Hey guys, sorry the thread has been so dead the past 6 months but funds have been tight and I’ve had even less time to work on the thread but I’ve got some stuff done and inching closer to fire up!
I got the Walbro 450 into the stock basket which was kind of a pain but it should work

Alright guys I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted an update but I’ve had a lot of downtime on the car and haven’t had much, and I’m on nights now so I’m not having much time to work on it. But I do have some updates now. So when Cody and I put the trans in, the crank moved more than the torque converter did when we bolted them together so I decided to take the motor out and tear it apart and do what I should have done in the beginning: bearings and rings. Well that didn’t go as planned. There was black gouging in the cylinder walls and the thrust bearing was ground clean on the back side of the motor. Here’s some pics of that old motor.
This first pic is the groove on the crank, didn’t get one of the bearing though. The second two are of the gouging in the cylinder walls.

For the first time in about 5 years, the car is down on its own four wheels on its upgraded suspension and it sits LOWWW! I am loving the look. QA1 pro-drag front coilovers and Viking pro-drag rear coilovers. I had to raise the car up a couple of inches for the temporary exhaust but I hope to lower it back down when I get the exhaust figured out.

So here we are trying to start the car, and it acts like it wants to but It doesn’t want to idle like it should. So we’ve been trying to diagnose that but have not found the cause, and have talked to the tuner and he has sent multiple updated tunes but nothing is fixing our issue. Sorry, just some Snapchat videos I quickly threw together and put on YouTube.

It runs!!
Finally got more time to go work on the car this weekend. Found some wires that were mixed up so it fixed our starting issues. I’ll link the full video from YouTube, and I’ll also just upload the shorter videos if you don’t want to watch the whole day shortened into a 12 minute video. It is starting to chop on idle but we couldn’t idle too long because we don’t have hoses and coolant in it yet but I ordered it all in case I have time this weekend. So excited this thing is getting closer.
EDIT: couldn’t upload the short videos so I will include time stamps in the description on YouTube for the important moments.

Sorry for not many updates, working night shift and everything else going on is wearing me out and leaving little time for other things. But here is a big update!! Trick Chassis 9”, strange Pro case 35 spline spool with 35 spline axles and 1/2” studs. Should be near bulletproof for my immediate power goals. I painted the housing with black epoxy paint, should hold up perfectly fine and I will be able to touch it up when it gets rock chips.

NICE... I admire the way you've stuck to it, & kept going. (My own late-thirdgen Firebird swap would be considerably closer to completion if I could muster up a bit more of that...)
And CONGRATULATIONS on the first startup as well, that's a heck of a milestone!
