Default 1969 Chevelle Steering Wheel

Does anybody know if a stock 1969 Chevelle steering wheel will bolt up to a 1998 Camaro steering column?

I put the donor Camaro column in the Chevelle during the swap because the Chevelle did not have a column when I bought it. I want to make sure 69 steering wheel will fit before I buy one.

Not sure if it would fit, but why not look into an aftermarket wheel. They look so much nicer and will fit for sure. I've been very happy with my forever sharp steering wheel.

Not to get off topic, but how difficult was it installing the 4th Gen Camaro steering column in the Chevelle? I'll be doing the same from a 2000 Camaro and any info would be great!

It wasn't too difficult. I used the 98 Camaro steering column, a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee power steering box (the box bolts right into the Chevelle without modification), part of the Camaro lower steering shaft and part of the Jeep steering shaft. I had to cut the main mount loose off the Camaro column and weld it on in a location so the steering wheel was in the right spot front to back (The Camaro main mount is bolts right into the Chevelle column hanger bolts under the dash). I used the upper portion of the Camaro shaft and the lower portion of the Jeep shaft and a combo of u-joints from both. I think I also had to cut one of the shafts so it all fit properly.

For those who say why didn't I just buy a Chevelle column - I did it because I had the parts, I had the time and it cost me nothing.

Now I just need to get a Chevelle steering wheel on there. Ordered it yesterday. I'll let you know how that goes.

Sweet, I appreciate the info. Definitely want to see how it looks when you get it on..I've been looking at what to replace the stock Camaro wheel with when I get to that point, I want to do a quick release hub on it also.

Default 1969 Chevelle Steering Wheel

The stock (reproduction)1969 Chevelle steering wheel bolted right on to the 1998 Camaro steering column. The only modification needed was to sand about 1/16" off the steering column plastic trim so the wheel doesn't rub.

I'm guessing it is, but is the newer column collapsible?
