Default Fuel Pressure Gauge at/near the Rail?

I'm swapping an LS2 into a BMW. What's simple way to go about installing a fuel pressure gauge on the engine so I'll know from the get-go whether I've got adequate and proper fuel pressure?

TIA.

Just screw one onto the test port on the fuel rail. Most gauges come with pipe thread so you will need an adapter more then likely.

Don't leave the gauge connected permanently on the shredder valve, or this will eventually happen, and possibly burn your car down.

Good to know. Thanks!

Any suggestions for a permanent installation in lieu of using the Schrader valve?

You can also put a gauge inline between the fuel line and the rail inlet. I reversed my fuel rail so the inlet is on the passenger side, but unfortunately the auto trans dipstick is so close to the Schrader valve I can't put the gauge on! AARRGGHH!! So I'm looking into putting the gauge at the inlet itself.
There's a thread or two about what parts are needed.

I put a tee fitting where my original 68 Camaro fuel line meets the fuel line stub I kept from the firebird donor. I ran a mechanical gauge to my cowl off of the tee. This will require you to make up some 37 degree flare fittings however.

Are you talking about a gauge you can see inside the car or just under the hood?

Just under the hood. That won't start a fire

What's the point? If you think you are having fuel pressure issues, just attach the gauge as needed.

Just seems like a simple way to keep tabs on fuel pressure.

Ive had either a sending unit, or more recently a liquid filled gauge, attached to my fuel rail since I first did my swap back in 2006... No leaking. No fires. This is on a stock LS1 fuel rail. The needle in the schrader valve is removed. The fact that i removed the needle..obviously means it got lost...so Ill be keeping a gauge on no matter the usefulness.

You need a -4AN to 1/8" NPT adapter, and the gauge of your choice.

I got this one for pretty cheap, and I LOVE the way it looks.

Coincidentally, I've been through two autometer sending units, and a cheap ebay sending unit, and they keep going bad. So now Im just leaving the gauge on the rail.

Perhaps the sending unit for the electronic gauge is heavier than the gauge, but after seeing how the fuel rail failed on me, as shown in the video, I would not leave anything attached to the rail. That's just me...

If I was to attach anything to the rail, I would just run a AN hose from the rail and mount the gauge or sending unit remotely.

Eh... Im leaning more towards a manufacturing "inconsistency" on that rail. Ive never seen one fail like that. My sender set up was kind of similar. Adapater, brass 90* fitting, then the sender. But my rail (LS1) doesnt look totally like yours. I dont see any place for mine to break, unless it snapped completely off, which would take some good force.

All that being said, Im going to remote mount my sender, only to see if that keeps the sender from reporting pressure 20psi less than what I have haha.

Good thing you caught that though!!! I had the quick disconnect fitting start to spray fuel one time. Ever since then I started replacing the keeper insert any time the fuel line comes off haha.
