89 toyota pickup ls1 swap
Here is a bunch of pics from the install of my ls1 into my 89 toyota 4x4 truck. With an original 3.0 and old 5.7 engine pics too. It's been fun and I would love to do it again soon. Please excuse the dirty hood.
Original 3.slow
98 chevy 2500 5.7
Made the original harness a stand alone myself. Used a current performance fuse/relay box with it.
Had to cut the firewall out to clear the cylinder heads. Since on the 98 5.7 from the bell housing mounting face to the closest cylinder head was about 1.5" and the ls1 is 0". I only had 3/4" clearance before.
Checking for clearance around everything.
Had to tear entire dash apart to make sure I had room and not catch **** on fire.
Using sheet metal to close it up.
Firewall pretty much done. Not anywhere close to show quality but this is a 4x4. It gets beat up and dirty!
Original c5 manifolds wouldn't work so I picked up c6 ones and they worked awesome!
Radiator mock up. Had to cut the opening way wider than stock to fit the ls swap radiator from a 70 chevelle. It was the perfect dimension to custom fit the stock c5 electric fans.
Fan vs water pump clearance
Fabbed up motor mounts.
Mounts on the frame
Frame and mounts painted with the poly mounts on.
Using stock c5 engine brackets.
New part of the lower core support.
Tied into and all welded.
Making a new core support top to weld to part of the original top that holds the hood latch. Relief cuts then bending to shape and welded on the backside.
Hood latch part of original top support.
New top piece tacked on.
Welded up.
Hood latch support added.
All painted up. Looks way better and it's stout.
Made my own x-pipe
Bought a summit u-build it mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust kit. Had to turn a few time to clear the narrow toyota frame rails.
The pieces that go from the manifolds to my first coupling point in which I put v-bands on.
Exhaust routed all to drivers side under trans since the pass side has no room for exhaust to pass by the transfer case.

You forgot the
Ta-Dah"
Looks nice. More pics during the swap would of been nice.

That's killer.
Pretty much never have owned anything except GM ever, I tried my hand with a 87 Hilux for a winter beater last winter.... That 22re is a POS, never again.
I liked the truck itself, but I wouldn't own another unless it was GM drivetrain swapped.
