Default cant get alt to charge over 12 volts. carb ls

i got a problem . i cant get my alt or charging system over 12volts when its running. i have a alt with the 4 pin harness and the batt+ on back. i have a switched 12v with 470k ohm resistor to the L terminal. and switched 12v to the F/I terminal. weird thing is when car is off batt reads 12.5.during run its 12 or 11.9.

car is a 71 chevelle. i disconnected the old external regulator and thats it as far as disconnecting old wiring for power supply.

can it be a grounding problem? i have frame and engine block grounded to batt.
thanks for any help in advance. it ll be awesome to get this prob solved.

I dont know what alt you have but all I did on mine was the L terminal to my gen light . The resister does the same thing as the light . I would try and remove the f/I conections and see what happens . If it dont charge then it may be a good idea to take it to the local store and have it tested .

Think I got problem figured out. I need 470 ohm resistor not 470k.

That would do it!

I also recommend wiring the S terminal to your main power distribution junction.

Do you think I should connect the F/I terminal to switched 12v?

I think the F/I can be used as a fail safe in case your Gen light bulb goes out or the resister fails.
