Default Ls3 swap in 3rd gen firebird p0315 code

Hi everyoone im having problems with my ls3 its swapped into a 86 firebird it turns on sounds ok but its throwing the code p0315 which is a CKP relearn code i tried doing the relearn but the scanner said there is a malfunction and it cant perform the relearn is there any other way to do the relearn and what could be causing the malfunction could it be that im not using a electronic temp sensor and its not detecting that the cars warm enough to start the relearn? Any ways to get around this problem any help would be much appreciated

If your scanner is unable to read the coolant temperature it very well could be the reason for the malfunction. As i'm sure you know it needs the coolant temp to be above 158F, and won't relearn if it is not. I have had issues performing ckp relearns but never due to a malfunction of the scanner. Does your ls3 rev normally?

The scanner says theres a malfunction and its not able to perform relearn im running a mechanical temp sensor so i thought that the scanner might not be able to read that the requirements are met. How would i switch to a electronical temp? Revs fine i can rev it up high just sounds real sluggish at idle

The ECM needs to know the engine temp. Did you remove this signal? You should have an electrical sensor for the ECM and then your mechanical sensor for your gauge.

What engine harness are you using? It should already have the temp sensor wired up. Check the front of the driver side head for a sensor.

Sorry for the super late reply i finally got a chance to look at it. its a psi conversion harness and i found the sensor on the driver side of the head already wired up but i guess its not working do those go bad often it looks new. could it be the ecu?

i couldn't get mine to relearn either. Hp Tuners and a Tech 2 would not do it. Probably tried 50 times with different mods to the tune.
