BMW 540i engine swap
New to this fine forum. My Bmw 540i engine has serious scored chambers with only 60,000 miles (previous owner had it sitting for 5 years. I love the car and was thinking of swapping the engine with a LS1. I currently have an auto transmission. What is a good engine swap for this car? Also, would the transmission be better swapped out as well? Want to attempt this on my own. Looking for resources an, info and some guidance
Thank you
Danny

The LS swap has become popular. It isn't particularly difficult or complicated. Search LS1Tech and Bimmerforums. There are several completed cars.
In your case, the crossmember will require a special set of mounts and a modified front sump pan (GTO). I chose to swap the 540 crossmember over to a 6cylinder crossmember so I could use an off the shelf oil pan (AutoKraft) & mounts from a member on Bimmerforums. It makes the install a breeze. Another benefit was gaining rack and pinion steering. If you want an n/a swap, the Holley LS exhaust manifolds fit very well.

This is an opportune time for you. Member rao is selling his build parts from his 540i LS conversion. You can get most of the parts needed from him and choose to get your own drivetrain. This is one of the easiest swaps in terms of being easily bolted up. I have a mount kit and an oil pan. I am just searching for a wrecked Camaro to pull the LS3 and TR6060 out of it along with the other parts.
