Default LS1 and 4l60e Swap into a 1967 Tempest Custom/GTO Clone

OK Guys,

This is my 1st day on LS1TECH and I'm about to start my new project next week. I purchased a 1967 Tempest Custom/GTO Tribute car with a 1975 455 motor that has major engine problems. Both #5 and #6 cylinders in the 455 sucked the valves, so the Heads, Pistons, Cylinder Walls and Cam are all trashed. For what it would cost me to try to fix the block, or buy a new one and build the 455 motor, I just decided to go the LS1 and 4l60e route based on everything that I have read so far. The main reason is that this is NOT a True Numbers Matching GTO, so I would benefit MORE by doing a LS1 and 4l60e swap instead of rebuilding a 1975 455. Any and All Thoughts? Am I making the right decision?

So, with all of that in mind, what in the world am I in for??? I am purchasing a 2001 LS1 and 4l60e with less that 75,000 miles out of a 2001 Trans Am. This includes all wiring, Computer, AC, brackets, pretty much everything in the engine bay.

Do any of you suggest a specific vendor where I can purchase most, if not all, of the parts I will need in order to do this LS1 Conversion? Any and All help would be greatly appreciated in more ways than you will know...

If your getting a complete pull out with all the wiring and accys I believe most of that should fit in your tempest. If you are going to use the AC you will have to either notch the frame or relocate the compressor. There are many motor mount options out there and I can`t say any one is the best option, but if your going to run headers try to get them from the same company that makes the motor mounts.

Do yourself a favor and buy a Holley 302-2 oil pan
I used generic 1" setback mounts and it fits like factory. Great looking car BTW

I just put a LS1/T56 magnum in my 67 GS400 this early summer. It is the best decision I've made. It has great power and gets great gas mileage. I will suggest going with a tanks inc EFI gas tank it fits great.
