Default 1986 Iroc Procharged 408

I've had this car for a long time. Bought it when I was 18 and have done quite a bit to it over the years. Suspension goodies, rear end, interior, etc. Came with a 305 LG4 that got the boot for a 383 SBC with AFR 195 heads. I added fuel injection to that and then a D1SC. Made some good power with that and actually just finished it up a couple years ago. What started this swap was actually my FIL. He bought a 57 chevy 150 that needed a engine. So he bought my 383, I kept the procharger for this new build. We just finished his 57 swap up the end of this summer, I'll have to get some pics.
SOOOO... I needed something new. After some thinking and gathering parts here's a list so far:
408 Forged (9.8 CR) from Thompson motorsports
230 AFR heads
Cam from Tony
Fast 102 ported from Tony
D1SC

I'm hoping to wrap this thing up in summer so bare with me, between work and twin 3 year olds I think it's a good goal. I'll keep this updated the best I can.

Onto the pics:

I painted the engine bay while it was out and learned that I should never paint anything ever again.

Very cool looking build and extra clean looking 3rd gen. What are your goals for the car?

Thanks guys. No real goals in terms of numbers or times. Just a nice street car. Should surprise a few people.

I'm actually the 2nd owner. So it was super clean when I bought it. Just a crappy drivetrain.

I have a set of Stainless Works headers from hawks thirdgen. The ones that are meant for LSx swaps. I got the ones with 2" primaries and 3" collectors. I'll get some pics. I didn't like the price, but holy cow, the craftsmanship is incredible. This is my first set of Stainless Works headers and they are awesome, very happy. The driver's side was a little tight, but the passenger side was easy to install.

Yea, it's been fun so far. The paint looks ok in the pictures, but looks terrible in real life. I don't think I have the patience for the prep work. I will definitely not attempt painting a full car. Should have let my wife paint it, she paints the house projects and they always turn out great.

Got the Stainless Works headers installed for now. I had them ceramic coated and kept the wrapping on them to try to avoid scratching, but I got the driver's side a little. They fit great. I have to bend a couple brake lines, but just minor. I'll have to re-route my fuel lines because they tuck up higher than the Hooker headers I had before. I'm really hoping to gain some ground clearance, we'll see.

Nice looking 3rd gen! I bought a new one back in '82 Z28/LG4 4 speed when they first came out, and put a Comp Cams 268 in it right away. What blower bracket are you going to use? Bob

Ghetto - I'm a little concerned about the power, haha. My 383 with the D1SC before moved out, this new setup will be even more. Thanks for the comments!

Bob - I actually bought the D1SC and sbc bracket from you a while back. I'm going to use a custom bracket from Indiana muscle car. I'll get some pics up soon.

Good to hear, I was going to recommend you use one of Justin's brackets for your 3rd gen LS combination. Bob

I decide to mock up the balancer pulley, power steering and alternator. The brackets are from procharger. They are really nice! On my old SBC their bracket for the P.S was pretty bad. Seems they stepped up their design work over the years. Everything is finger tight for now, just checking how everything will fit together. I need to get a tensioner.

I've decided to start looking for a transmission. I'm going to get a T-56 magnum conversion from either RPM or Tick. I try to contact them this week and get some details.

Also, I thinking about going to a set of Dakota Digital gauges. Anyone ever use them? They make a nice set for thirdgens that uses the VSS instead of the cable driven speedo.

Bob,

Yea, he was really helpful and still is with this kit. His bracket is a very nice piece.

I'm keeping with the D1SC for now, but I really want to jump to a F1-A or the likes once this thing gets a few miles on it. I'll let you know
