Default 1995 Camaro 5.3 Swap

Hey everyone,

I made a thread about this build once already but it got cluttered and I wanted to keep it somewhat together

1995 Unbadged Z28 camaro:

I am the 3rd owner of the car, I wasnt able to find much info about the first owner besides they put 185k miles on it serviced it at a dealer every 10k miles like clock work. The second owner put 4k miles on it and while they had it, they put an Ultra Z ram air hood on it, lowered it and put some crappy tail lights on it.

I was only able to put 5k miles on it as an LT1 until it spun a rod bearing, the water pump blew, the opti went out, the oil pan separated and most of the engine gaskets needed to be replaced.

So while I had the motor out I decided I wanted to make a race car out of it and build everything up. I've went back and forth with what to do and most people will hate me for it but I decided to go with LSx swap. LKQ does a holiday special where everything you pick up is 50% off. So for 240 I was able to get a complete motor out of a Tahoe that was placed there that morning on new years. Once I got it home I started to rip it apart and found that it blew a head gasket not sure how long it was driving or anything like that but most of the oil had turned to that chocolate jello. So I took the time to take everything out and clean it. I didnt take as many pictures as I would of liked to but to give you an idea this was the timing cover

After the holidays, I will be upgrading a lot and make this a turbo build. Still working out the way I want to go about of doing it, and what parts will work and what not. Figured I'd just keep making it faster until the engine goes, then get a 408 or something along those lines.

Nice. I remember your other thread. So I guess you are keeping the car now. How to you like the 5.3 compared to the Lt1?

It's been a lot of fun the past few days with it. I'm still trying to get the tune worked out in it, down low it's being a bit sluggish but above 3K it really wakes up. I think the higher rpms is where it seems to shine over the LT1. But it's hard to say since I only drove it for a few weeks as an LT1 lol. How's your swap coming along? Youre still doing the 6.0 right? I can't remember all that well

Yeah my swap has been done for a while now. I am slowly fixing all the prior issues with the car. Hopefully going to pull it back out soon. I have a Ms4 cam kit for it and going to pick up 243 heads.

Damn, shows how long i've been out of it lol. How you like driving it around? And you'll have to let me know how the MS4 cam works out. I was thinking about doing that cam with a nitrous setup if I dont decide to turbo it.

It is a handful with the stock worn out 16" tires. It seems way faster then the Lt1 though. Just purchased these OE 18" C5 replicas and now I am hunting for tires. My brother is about to get his Ws6 back up and running and we are going to have some fun!
