Default '65 Lincoln Continental 5.3/air ride/20's

Still finishing up quite a few builds, but I can't be more excited to bastardize this one owner completely original (supposedly true 13k mile) Continental.

Original owners died in an auto accident not long after they bought the car, and it sat in a barn for nearly 30 years. I have all the original paperwork and registration receipts for the car.

Got the motor to turn over, but it needs a new carb amongst other things. Car is pretty much rust free minus 2-3 spots. I took a break from pulling the drivetrain (which I've already sold for almost half of what I paid for the car) to start cutting out the very minor rot.

This one is getting an 80k mile 5.3, haven't decided on trans yet. 350/400/60e. It's a heavy car, but the trans tunnel is very short.

Interior is pretty mint minus the seat tops and carpet

Small patch of rust on passenger 1/4 panel above the trim

Thanks for posting. What is the story behind you buying the car? Was it stored in Texas?

It got passed around a few times (not on paper), finally my buddy ended up with it. I don't normally build Fords, but I've always wanted an early Continental. And '65 was a 1 year only, and in my opinion the best year. Most people shy away from them I think because they're so expensive to restore.

I've only seen 1 build and I don't think the guy ever finished it. He notched the crossmember which is odd, because the 430 is a front sump. So I think I can fit a 5.3 with zero problems by using a GTO pan or aftermarket.

One thing is for sure, an LS looks tiny in this huge engine bay.

When my Firebird was at the paint shop, they were working on a 67 4 door Continental.
At the time they were block sanding it, it look like it was a mile long.

That's a really cool project and one I would love to tackle myself. The 5.3 should make it much more pleasurable to own and drive.

'65 was the last 'short' body. They grew in length starting in '66.

Got the drivetrain out yesterday. After seeing it out, I think I made the right choice. These motors can get really expensive, and from what I've read even freshly rebuilt struggle to make 250hp.

No going back now! Sold the motor and trans for $1200, and I traded some work on a '67 Nova for that 80k mile 5.3 pullout.

It's all the little **** on these cars that scare people. $800 windshield, $300 gasket, $800 door rubbers etc etc.

Not looking forward to getting all the vacuum locks going

Very jealous, my grandparents owned one and it was awesome! I think I'd have to turbocharge the motor going in if there's that much room :-) Shame it seemed to have gotten so much rust in storage and the paint can't be saved. Looking forward to this build!

P.S. I'd swap as much vacuum stuff to electronic as I could!

Threw my old SS wheels off my Belair Wagon on it because I was bored waiting the guy to pick up the drivetrain.

Is it wrong that I love the way it looks? Would really **** a lot of Lincoln/Ford guys off.

We think so too. Already pissing a lot of people off with this build as is lol.

Probably won't run them, but wanted to see what they looked like. Ordered my mount parts from autofab. Using a set of my 1/4" slider plates I laser cut.

I know it's becoming cliche, but I love the way some smoothies or detriot steel wheels look on these.

I agree, and I'm already running 22" Transits on my '65 C10. Not that i'm against them on this car, but looking to do something different.

I have another set of these Camaro wheels in polished that might look a little better.

Haven't messed with it in a while. Some kid wants it as a project, so I may sell it. Just don't have the time. BUT if he doesn't buy it, i'll make some time to at least pull it in the shop and get started.
