Default 1984 SVO Mustang 4.8 Turbo

This was my first car. I had several different 2.3 turbo set ups in it over the years. Had fun with the 2.3's but was tired of messing with them and wanted a change. Picked up a $400 LR4 locally and went from there.

Original 1984 SVO, Competition Prep Package, Sunroof

2000 4.8, cleaned up, rings/bearings, studs
241 heads
LS1 intake
LS9 cam

Forced Inductions S475, 83mm turbine, 1.10 A/R T6
2.25" crossover piping
Two Emusa 38mm wastegates
Precision 1000hp FMIC

Microsquirt ECU

Built TH400, RMVB, Brake
Circle D billet 258mm, 3B stator 3500-3600 stall converter

Plan to run 93 + Meth, no real goals. Just want to have fun.

That's the bulk of it. I have a bunch of little things left to do but the major stuff is done. Hope to fire it in a month or so.

After I fit the waste gates that will complete all the fab work I need to do. The plan is to pull everything out, paint the engine bay and being final assembly.

That is so rad. Always thought the SVO's were cool, even though I'm not a fan of the fox body... if that makes any sense. I am quite interested in the simple combination of parts you have for this build, and how well they play together. The ls1 heads and intake on the 4.8 with the ls9 cam is literally something I have thought about before, so I would love to hear how it performs on the track, driveability, dyno numbers if you get them, etc.

Great progress, really like the rear wheels ,,the fronts.. that offset kills the look

the car wont be a sleeper with the race stars.

nice work! and really a cool way to keep an old car fresh. courageous to modify it to this extent but still a sweet looking ride that will be fast as **** when completed.

Yeah the fronts are not the best looking. The car has full SN95 suspension so I had to run a bit more offset.

The heads and intake were just a good off Craigslist. I think it will work pretty well. Only about 9:1 compression, but the car is light and the converter should help light the turbo off quick.

awesome. i have seen some posts from you before, seen that SVO avatar and thought to myself that would be a cool build. now i see it, and it is.
there was one near me in the past with an NA v8 build in it, always bothered me a little. its an SVO, it needs boost. you have doubled the size of the engine, and turbo. good work.

the RPF1's coming off then? or they still the street wheels?

I think I am going to try and sell them here soon. I need to get smaller brakes up front first though, the Race Stars won't clean my Cobra brakes.

Nice build. I remember roaming the streets back in the early 80's with my Olds 403 looking for an SVO to race...... The 5.0 was the car to beat back then. Not many knew what an SVO was. Cool car.

Very cool build! I like the 2.3 setup too! I had a similar setup in a Bobcat (Pinto) with some N20 for added fun. I hung the rods out of a buddy's "O" back in the day at the track one night. We got nothing but hate from the "O" purists for destroying a good factory "O". LOL

I liked the SVOs also! Great cars for that early turbo period where the Buick GN was also feared.

Thanks guy! I have a bunch of stuff showing up here in the next few days. Really I just need to finish the engine harness, fuse/relay board and run some fuel lines and it should fire.

I do need to decide what I want to do with the steam ports on the heads. I've heard so many different opinions on them.

awesome! We just finished building an MG Midget with the 2.3. 61mm turbo, big cam and PiMP setup. Should be alot of fun once the Mustang 2 and 4 link are all in....

We are also building a boosted LS for a foxbody that'll be my "family" car for shows/cruises.

the car looks great and the RaceStars will look badass on the silver

I think in a turbo build, you absolutely need to run the rear steam ports, I have just seen too many issues which "could" be related to them.
