I'm not an elected official - so there's no difference between my official and unofficial position.

Finally got around to finishing up both cylinder heads

Before breaking hard edges on the combustion chamber. Help prevent detonation causing hot spots and give the coating a softer edge since paint is thinnest at hard edges. Those little pieces of casting flash act like mini blow torches

Chambers smoothed...I still have to break hard edges on the casting holes. If you look at the head at the top you can see the edges smoothed and bolt holes chamfered.

Just enough sanding to remove the casting flash and give the thermal barrier coating a more consistent surface for more even coverage.

That’s the BIG question! I think everybody here is wanting to know.

1) Engine runs fantastic.
2) Engine runs with ZERO noticeable gains in performance
due to all the extra polishing and work being done.
3) Engine eats itself up due to incorrect tolerances or due
to all these miracle coatings peeling off and clogging the
oil pump.
4) Hopefully it runs like a scalded cat and you are
rewarded for your meticulous work!

It’s going to be a bit longer than expected. FedEx dropped the supercharger and cracked, warped, messed up the rotor housing. Hopefully sometime this year haha.

Hey Petro its Rick (Iroc-10). Hey, so do you have to have the valves re-cut now since you did the coating or will they still seal up with that sprayed on there?

Hope all has been well. Been awhile.

I checked them before I lapped them and they sealed water on their own without any springs or grease. I still hand lapped each one with 1200 grit compound and labeled them for their spots. I also CC’d each one again. There was no noticeable difference in volume. (Maybe .1 cc which is less than a drop of water.) The nice thing is that the coating smoothed all the surfaces and transitions. I also like the fact that the shared wall between the intake and exhaust is protected now. Imagine how much heat that shared wall puts into the intake charge. Anywho slowly plugging along.

After 3-4 coats of gloss black and sanding inbetween I was finally happy enough with the finish. I just finished up putting 3 coats of clear on it and when it fully cures I’m going to start putting the shortblock back together.

KBS Coatings Gloss Black Motor Coater and KBS Diamond Clear

Part of the reason for so many Gloss black coats is because I’ve never used a spray gun before so there was some learning with that and so that I could build up enough paint to cover the casting bumps.

Looks like the bolt holes have a bit of paint in them too.

Yeah they had a lot of paint on them haha. I cleaned all the sensor hole/pads along with the engine mount holes/pads on the block the other day. Sanded the paint down to bare metal on the pads and chased the threads and ran a bolt down each hole. It might of taken less time to have just masked that stuff off in the first place but oh well it’s all good now.

I'm interested in how well that motor paint holds up. Looking real good.

I think he should tear it all back apart, strip all the coatings and do dyno pulls after each one is applied so we all know which ones are worth it and what real world gains are! lol
Totally kidding. Can't wait to see it running!
