Default Beat to death alternator

I have a question that has been beat to death, but I can't seem to figure out the final verdict of what people are doing recently. I got my Nova swap running, but the alt isn't charging. It's a C5 GMPP kit and has the SFL terminals. I wired 12v keyed to the L wire through a 194 build holder I had. The alternator won't charge. It also won't charge if I add 12v to the F wire. S is ran to the battery post on the back. I know 12v is supposed to burn up the L wire but I tried it very briefly just to see what would happen. If I touch 12v to it, it jumps up and charges 13.8 but won't work with the resistance method. Also there is a black line on the L part of the alternator like someone marked it from factory, not sure why. I don't want to burn it up obviously but I can't find any recent threads that addresses this either. Opinions?

Take it to a parts store and have it tested

It has to be good though doesn't it? For the split second I applied 12v to the L terminal it charged.

What resistor did you try using? It has to be a certain one or it wont work.

The resistor I tried probably wasn't right, it's just one I had laying around from some autometer gauges. The 194 bulb is what I initially tried though, seemed to be a common solution in a lot of threads. Is it possible the bulb reduced too much and didn't activate it? May just have to order the 470ohm.

Any idea what voltage is suppose to be ran through the L wire?
I seem to be the other way - im worried my alternator is always charging. Any good way to tell?

You are going to be really mad at yourself if you go through a bunch of effort only to find the unit was bad.

This is the one I know for a fact works. And it goes in this location on the connector.

I messed around with it some yesterday and used a different bulb socket. Inline with the L terminal the alternator now charges fine. Just an issue with the holder I was using I guess. The bulb does stay lit up though once I start the motor at idle. I assumed it should go out but doesn't.
