Default Has anyone polished their stock fuel rails....

To look like this? The green coating is looking kind of crappy on mine.

I know they make billet after market rails but I like the look of the stockers and want to keep them whether I polish them or not.

I have a buffer, just concerned about getting the coating off the rails before I buff. Wondering if I should use a paint stripper or sandpaper. Seems like paint stripper would get in the cracks and crevices a little better with less effort.

My guess is that's been chromed. The fuel rails themselves I believe are stainless, but the four mounting brackets spot welded to them are not and if you strip the paint (anodizing?) off of them, they will just rust.

Be a lot of work.

I don't like drawing attention to random ugly bits so I just painted them black so they blend in as much as possible and let other things "pop" more. Like stainless or ceramic heads, the raised wording on a Fast intake, etc.

I also painted the valve covers black and the coils a dark gunmetal but used some stainless cap screws to hold the coils to the black brackets.

Thanks, Yeah I thought about it and decided to go ahead and paint them. I bought some duplicolor gunmetal paint that i put on my valve covers a while back. It should be low key enough to keep them from standing out, but break it up with the other stuff a little.

Good call, polishing out the little crevices in that thing would be a nightmare.

Not only that.. But after the fact maintenance is a nightmare on anything motor related that's not sealed.

Especially if you can't easily reach it.

Just wanted to share some pics of what I did. I scuffed the valve covers and fuel rail and painted them Duplicolor Dark Shadow Gray, followed with a clear coat

I wasn't concerned about the casting marks on the valve covers since they are pretty much covered by the coils, just wanted to get some paint on them.

But I made sure to take more care on the fuel rails since those will be seen

I've had them straight plated (they don't polish the chrome) and it looks nice. I think it cost me about $40.
