Working late at my shop leaves little time to work in my garage. But last night I got a small project completed.

I looked everywhere for a throttle cable bracket for this, but couldnt find one.

So I figured I would make one using a piece of metal I had left over.

I dont have all the cool tools, but I tend to find ways to make em work....DONT TRY THIS AT HOME!!

My fingers survived and after some touch up work with a file, I got this.

One of my next projects, is to get a 4" tube to mate the TB & Filter. I ordered some Vibrant pieces, so hopefully it wont be too difficult.

Not a whole lot done this past week, as I was on a Vacation with the family.

I did get the 4" Aluminum Intake "fab'd up" Its really just two part numbers from Vibrant Performance that happened to fit my combo, so I got lucky there.

Getting close to firing this ole truck up. I have a small list of things to do, but I need to find more hours in the day.

Jason and Brad from Tim Soldier Racecars, welded these up for me. As always, great work!!

https://www.facebook.com/tinsoldierracecars

My guys at Killer Koatings, Northern Kentucky, turned my parts around in an afternoon. I was shocked when I got the call. Great guys if anyone ever needs powder coating work done.

Im not sure if Im digging the black VCs, but I can coat them back to Red if need be.

Been super busy with family stuff, but managed to get a few to work on the truck the other night. I can say, that Im 2 injector o-rings away from firing this truck up!! We loaded a base tune into the ECM, checked everything, and hooked up all the positive wires! No sparks and everything seemed to work, so Im keeping my fingers crossed that Ill be making noise here soon.

Things left to do:

1) Add trans fluid
2) Fab up exhaust
3) Figure out why headlights and radio dont work
4) a million little things to check once it fires!!

I did happen to get a "leak free" Intercooler pump system working. So Im happy that worked.

Great JOB!! You mentioned you had forgot to install the crank bolt. Were you going to pin the pulley to the crankshaft? Edlebrock made a big deal out of that in their instructions when I was installing their SC on my lS3 Camaro, even sent a drill, a jig and the pin. Just a thought.

Is that really a stock 78mm LS1 throttle body? If so, will your install not tolerate a bigger one? Easy power to be had there with a bigger one!

4.10s are a lot of gear for that V trans gearing, especially for a relatively light truck. Better practice that 1-2 shift!

Awesome build!

CRAP! I forgot all about pinning the crank. You would think after years of doing that on customer cars, I would have remembered to pin mine.
Thank you for the heads up!

Yes, I had it left over from another build.
I figured there will be many "do overs" once I finally get it out on the street and running right.

We did find and fix another issue. After a while under the dash trying to figure out why I have no headlights, my friend figured it out. He was tracing the wire in the harness from the bulkhead to the headlights, also was checking grounds, connections etc and he found it.

The Freaking Bulkhead connector was not tight! So he tightened it up and VIOLA! I have headlights & Turn signals!! :party36:

On to the next item, bleed the slave cylinder. After an hour of pumping the pedal, releasing the bleed screw, still no pedal. After he released the fitting at the master, then I got pedal, but only way near the bottom of travel, right off the floor. We kept at it for a bit more, but then realized. We have to pull the trans and then shim the Slave cylinder.

So no drive around the block on a sunny Sunday afternoon with open headers.

Well, my truck is close to coming off the lift. I couldnt gather some help with the trans removal/slave cylinder shim until later today. So last night, I got a wild hair and decided to tackle another project for the truck.

It started with a couple 2x4s...

2 more...

add some 1x4s...

and BAM!! Wooden Bed Rails for the truck!

I also mounted up my grandfathers original OHYOOGA horn.

Im debating on whether or not to stain the rails, torch em, paint or leave them alone...

I moved the truck out of the garage last night because I needed to see it somewhere other than on the lift. Im going to have to pull the trans back out due to the fact that it wont go into 1st or reverse without me forcing it into gear. Hopefully its something simple.

I also need to put the seat back in and decide on what Im going to do about the floor covering, ie, Carpet, Rubber mat, sound deadner etc

Once that is done, Ill get the 3" exhaust fabd up and then onto the dyno for tuning.

I did manage to get a couple shots and short video of it outside thou.

Video...

HOPEFULLY, I got the shifting issue figured out. I cut the floor and accessed the top of the trans and pulled out the shifting mechanism. I filed on it some more, re-installed it and it seems to be working now. Once my tuner gets a minute to adjust the tune to keep it running long enough, Ill try and back it out again.

I also found a few hours to get my rails finished.

I used one of those hand held, portable Propane torches and went to town.

I then cleared them with this.

Ill get some better shots once its back outside the garage. Im curious to see an overall view of the rails & truck together somewhere other than inside my garage.

Awesome build so far! I'm gathering parts for a iron LS1/4l80e swap in my 84 K5 and love getting inspiration from other square body swaps.

Cool build, I like it-I have done a few LS swaps, just picked up a 70 chevy short bed step side, 6 cyl stick-prob do a frame off winter build
Prob drop my spare 5.3 and turbo in it, and a 4L80E
Always looking for ideas, cant wait to see how yours goes
