Does LS Engine need VSS and ECT (Engine coolant temp) to run?
title says it all. im swapping LS6 in a RX7 at the moment and im thinking of not running VSS with F body ecu. Car does not have reverse lock but i heard it would have idle issues without VSS.
Also, im running brand new gauge cluster and no OEM gauges. Does the ECU need oil/water temp/ pressure info for anything if i were to control fan manually for some reason

Many of the calculations in the stock PCM are based on engine coolant temperature. If the sensor is not installed, the LS1 style PCM will default to something like -38° which throws all the fuel and spark calculations way off. Why eliminate the factory sensor? Just use the opposite head for the gauge.
Removing the VSS MAY cause problems coming to a stop. Different people have had different results with that one.
Oil temperature and oil pressure are not needed at all.

You need to the ECT for the ECM to correctly adjust the fuel trim and turn on the Fans.
I have been running without a VSS for 10+ years.. no problem, even with my AC running. But this is with a manual trans.. if you had a Auto trans, you would have drivability issues as stated above.
I run a standalone SPAL Duel Fan Controller, so it isn't controlled by the ECM and ECT.
I use a Line Lock switch on my shifter to control my reverse lock out. I hold it down while going into reverse.
As suggested, just run all of the sensors as needed (O2, ECT, etc..). Oil pressure is one that the ECM doesn't need, the BCM would uses it for the dash gauges.
