Default Drive shaft bolts continued

Trouble fitting the drive shaft bolts into the pinion flange on the 1999 Ford Explorer pinion flange. I got the bolts from the local dealer (12mm 25 1.75 thread) 12.9 stamped into the head of the bolt..

Bolt will only go in about a turn. Ford parts guy said this flange bolt size was used on all Ford 8.8 rear ends. 7/16 coarse SAE bolt will thread in but is a sloppy fit.

Thinking about running a 12 mm tap thu the holes,

Be careful with the tap because it might screw up the threads. I believe they make special thread chasers that are designed to clean up the threads instead of cutting them, like a tap. I'd use one of those with a lot of anti-seize and see if that doesn't clean them good.

Sounds like you have the wrong pitch bolts. Dealer parts-guys make mistakes.

Borrowed/rented 12mmx1.75 thread pitch chase tap from O'Riley's. Liberal anti seize and chase tap. Problem solved. Thanks for the help.
