Default Norway: 1972 Lemans "Light Pro-Touring" 5.3 swap

Hi guys,

Been watching this forum for years, and always wanted to do a LS-swap myself. Growing up, i was always with my family at american car shows here in Norway, and i've been a massive fan of the Gatebil trackdays here in Norway since the end of the 90's where there are a ton of LS-swaps - And you can see them in nearly every thinkable vehicle when browsing the pit area!

Finally, passing my 30's last year, i came to my senses and got away from the thoughts of doing a LS-swapped 200SX and got the financial part sorted out to by myself an american car. Got a lot of friends working on their trackday-cars, but i would rather have a cool classic car i could drive on the road instead of just the track. This february, i picked up a 1972 LeMans from the southwest of Norway. This came from New Mexico in 2010, and has not been driven that much over here as far as i can figure.

So, after taking of the Luxury sideskirts, it was looking like this sitting in my garage:

Painted the grille black:

..more coming..

So, i needed to do something about the look on this car first.

Ordered US Mags U109 Bandits from Jegs:

I removed the front chrome list around the front fenders, since the rear did not have it after i removed the skirts. In April i got my little brother (who's working at a tyre shop) to get me some Vredestein tyres, which was just used for a couple of months on a SUV. It now looked like it was'nt the same car anymore:

Here's a picture from two days ago, driving home from a car meet with a friend's 1967 El Camino 396.

So, this is what i recieved in the mail last week:

From Jegs:
- Vinyl roof, black - Since the white vinyl roof i have does not look that good, think it's been on since the car came out of the factory. And i wanted to change to black.
- Original in-dash tachometer from OPG - I hope i can use this when swapping engine as well, too keep the sleeper look inside.
- Miscellaneous maintenance parts to make the original engine run good this summer (oil filter, plugs..).

From a junkyard here in Norway:
- 5.3 LM7 truck engine from a 2004 Chevy Express Van

I will hopefully take some pictures of the motor and post it when i get back from Gatebil main festival this weekend.

Very nice looking car. You will love the LS engines in these old cars. I just swapped in a LS1 into my 67 Buick GS last year and it was the best decision I have made, great power and gas mileage. Are you going auto or manual transmission?

You should be able to use a factory style reproduction tach. You will need to set the tune for it and may need a pull up resistor depending on your PCM, but ive used repro tachs in swaps before with no problems.

Thanks man, and good to hear peoples experience with these engines. I am going automatic to begin with, but eventually i will probably try to find a decent T56.

The minor cosmetic changes and those great looking wheels certainly transform the look of the Poncho. Well done!

Will come, just got smaller license plates for it, which also made a big improvement to the looks.

Thanks Dave, i most definately will..

Actually i have a few questions regarding the Fuel Injection system. What do you guys suggest? I have been looking at the Fast EFI XIM for LS engines. According to this article, it pumps out 363 horsepowers of a stock LM7:
http://www.trucktrend.com/how-to/eng...-mild-to-wild/

Any cheaper suggestions? I am missing the ECU from the car the engine came from, and probably more, so i thought it would be better to start from scratch with a "plug & play" solution.

You got any links? Searched on Jegs and Summit, but its mostly systems including carburetor-style throttlebodies..

https://holley.com/products/ls_power/ls_efi_systems/

You will have to convert to a cable TB...and the HP only does not control an auto trans...If you need DBW and trans control you have to get one of the Terminator kits that uses the Dominator ECU...

If you are going with a 3 speed auto or 200r4 then the HP is a goodchoice, especially if you are eventually going manual. If you do go 4l60e or 80e then you could just get an auxiliary box like the TCI Trans box or other. I would also look at an LSX micro squirt box...let me dig up some info on that. Cheaper and apparently user friendly as well.
