Nice job and nice write-up, your welding skills look fine, is there any reason you didn't just weld your lock plate outer ring to the tank instead of using the gasket and screws?

The ring that I made was from a plastic tank, and the green seal section was part of the plastic. I wasn't sure how I would get a proper seal if I didn't use the "adapter ring" and bolt it in.

Not sure what you mean? If you are referring to venting the tank, I will just use a vented gas cap like the factory did.

Gotcha, I did basically the same thing, I used the outer lock ring from a 2006 GTO fuel tank and it was metal, so I welded it to the tank.

I didn't seem to find any tanks that used the same openings that were all metal. I would have preferred to weld a ring to the tank rather than bolt it, but it is really solid so I'm not concerned.

I didn't have anything to purge the tank while I welded it. I left the fuel filler off of it and the gases escaped that way. Or were you referring to the method where gases are coming from the back side of what you are welding too?

What are the dimensions on that retainer ring out of the Colorado? None of my local yards have a Colorado, so I'll likely be trying to find something else to work.

Did you use a fuel pressure regulator to get the LT1 running? I'm putting one in my 94 chevy truck and I have a 2011 pump (left over from a supercharger addition) I would like to use but the LT only needs about 45 psi as I understand it. Thanks

MY .02 worth. I used a walbro 340 kit, enlarged the hole at the stock location and will have a raised panel for access in the trunk. Sure beats droppin the tank for service.

I used the fuel pressure regulator that is on the fuel rail of the LT1. I didn't have any problems with it running over pressured at all.

To each their own, but I didn't want to have a hole cut into my trunk. Too easy for fuel vapors and exhaust to come into the car. Plus with the 5th gen pump I only have one fuel line to disconnect, stock pigtail, and filler neck it's not too bad of a job to drop it.

Cool, thanks.

I've never understood the trunk access panel thing. It takes about 15 min and a jack to drop the tank, at least on the Nova. It's not like you're trying to bleed a T56 or anything.

I agree on not cutting an access panel, tank is fairly easy to drop, and if you use the very reliable 5th gen. fuel module, how often do those fail, every 100-150k miles, not many ever put that many miles on their cruiser, as most are weekend toys not daily drivers.

ryeguy, big thanks for this DIY. I replaced my failing Aeromotive pump/C5 fpr with a gen 5 camaro pump module, and this was immensely helpful. I found a 2010 HHR to use the lock ring. the car is running much better now.

I've been running this in my car for about a year now however I've only been driving it back and forth in my driveway. I'm hoping to get the rest of my car back together very soon and back on the road so I can get a full review. But so far has worked flawlessly.

I’ve put a few thousand miles on mine, with zero hitches. I’ve run it to E, and have yet to have any hiccups during hard cornering.

Hookemdevil, you are using a 5th gen style stock fuel pump in yours?
Is your setup on your build thread?
Same setup as ryeguy?
