Thanks for all the input fellas. I wouldn't be surprised if my current cable was shot, its probably the original for all I know. I like the idea of this option for my current project, especially the adaptability for gear changes, etc. Noise isn't going to be a problem for me as I'm going to be running side pipes .

Keep us posted.

And the neat thing about GPS drive is that NO further adaptability for driveline or tire size changes is required.

Received the Classic unit today. Not my first rodeo -- I can tell you, just based on packing (11 on a 10 point scale), this thing is one nice piece of equipment. Instructions on high gloss paper with color....and customer service/response from Brian/Pam is first rate across the board. I'm going to run it through the calibration process just so I can hear the motor spin up -- let the sound level help me determine if I put it inside the passenger compartment or under the hood. Then I'll give them a cable length and have them send me a new, custom cable.

Nah --- German ancestral name of Jundt = Yount (Americanized by some civil servant who spelled it phonetically back in 1721); wife Japanese. The only "Netherlands" around our house.....well, never mind.

German.... close enuff! lol Yeah, MANY immigrants suffered name-re-spells AND outright name changes via POE snafus with officials who likely had a hard time pronouncing their own name! lol

Neither the Germans nor the Dutch would be pleased with “close enuf”...still holding onto the bombing of the dykes during the war.

Yeah - but where? LOL -- still prevalent over 'there'....

Anyhow, hopefully I'll get the unit spun up over the next day or two and determine a location.

My speedo cable housing/cable are original to the car - 36 years old. And the tranny fitting on mine (modified to fit a Ford/T5z) won't work with the new Classic box. So the folks at Classic swung by IPD in Portland, OR and for a small fee picked up a brand new replacement cable/housing for my 82 242. I provided a dimension to them -- and they shortened it and replaced the end so it will attach to the new Classic box. See the pic below. Completely new cable/housing complete with new grommet for the stock opening in the firewall. Going to mount it under the hood --- thought the motor noise might bother me in the car. I'll show some pics of installation. I'll run the 12V+ and the GPS wiring through the same grommet to run down to the box.

Pulled the dash cap off, removed the vinyl/cardboard panel that blocked off the speaker opening. Cut a piece of sheet metal and glued the vinyl to it. Drilled a hole, installed grommet, fished the GPS cable through all layers. Now there's a piece of sheet metal underneath the vinyl/screen so the GPS antenna mag base sticks. Have the cable bundled up under the dash waiting for the next piece of the project.

I 3D printed it there with my tiny, portable 3D printer. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Disconnected back up lights and speedo from below - hard to get pic of speedo connection - almost directly above crossmember.

Pulled cable/wiring up from above -- the back up light switch and oil temp switch wiring ran through the same grommet as the speed cable. So that wiring has to be run through the new cable grommet.

Installed the new cable to speedo and temporarily hooked it up to the box. Provided 12V+ and ground to test -- upon start up, but before grabbing a satellite signal, the box will spin up to about 30 mph to let you know - 1) it's working, but 2) doesn't have a signal yet. I didn't have the GPS connected, so the 30 mph signal shows it's working exactly as intended. Now to make the wiring/install look good, and replace the oil temp and back up light wiring. Once done I can pull car out of the garage and calibrate/test.

Well, a bit of abdominal pain after lunch - figured I’d work through on the car. Routed GPS cable through firewall; drilled holes and mounted box on chassis near radiator driver’s side. Used grommets/rubber pads I had so no metal to metal contact between box and car. Pain got the better of me. Took a shower, put a heating pad on. Kept getting worse - research indicated possibility of gallstone attack. In the ER at 6PM...Toradol = no pain. Doc says gallstones and one has blocked the bile duct. Admission tonight, surgery in the morning. Updates to thread as healing allows!
