Well, I did not make the goal of getting the truck to LST. We stopped at about 3:30am on Friday morning, got a bit of sleep then got back at it around 8:30 to try to start it. No luck, we trouble shot it for about 3.5 hours and not progress except to find a few wiring issues with the trucks wiring and the ignition switch. Fixed or bypassed those to crank and try to start it again. NOTHING. We have spark and fuel to the rails, the air is there too.

I gave up and decided to just head down to the show and enjoy the weekend and hangout. We headed out at about 2 and got down there about 5 that afternoon to check out the show and find our hotel. Got set up the next morning and had a great time. I will post a few pics later after I get them downloaded off my phone.

Here is what it looks like now:

During the weekend, I talked to a few people and brainstormed ideas as to what could be wrong. I think the first step it to check that the PCM is firing the injectors, and to clean the injectors since they have been sitting for who knows how long. One idea is that they are stuck closed and that is keeping it from firing up. This makes some sense to me, since while we are cranking it over, we don't smell any gas fumes at all.

I am going to step away from it a bit and get a few home issues taken care of and watch a few of my son's baseball games, and attend one of my daughter's gym competitions.

Stay tuned as I work to fire this pig up...

Sorry to hear you couldn't get it running.

Quick questions if you don't mind. What radiator hoses did you end up using? Do you have part numbers for both the Upper and Lower?
Thanks

You can rent a Noid light tester from auto stores to see if PCM is firing the injectors.....I did this when I had a no-start condition.

(My culprit ended up being the crank sensor.)

Its not uncommon at all to have all the injectors stick closed on an engine that has been sitting around for a while. I usually soak them in Seafoam overnight, then check them with a battery to make sure they are opening, you can hear them 'click' when they do. Sorry you didn't make the show, but you'll get it figured out I'm sure!

I think I have an old one around the shop somewhere. If not I can just wire in an LED build at one of the injectors...

I won't get back to this truck until I get the back door to our house finished. I had to replace the jamb due to some water damage. I got it secure, but I need to finish out the trim work and paint. Maybe later this week or weekend I can get to checking this pig out.

Triple checked grounds and added one. The switch is a Standard Motor Products replacement for the OE switch. For my trouble shooting, I bypassed the switch and have a direct to battery starter button and power to the PCM direct too. The ignition switch is not even used in this set up while I trouble shoot the problems. The reason I did this, is I did find an issue with the 12V+ Key on power going to the PCM and an issue with the starter wire from the OE harness. Once I have the engine running, I will fix the issues with the ignition switch.

I've had problems with assorted Standard Motor Products before. I always try to steer clear of this brand whenever possible.

I have never had any problems over the past 30 years using SMP parts. This switch was working fine with the old engine set up. I really doubt any of my issues are with the switch at this time.

I got an unexpected 30 minutes in the shop last night. So, I pulled the Driver side injectors and tested them with a 18V Ryobi battery, none of them cycled. So, pulled the other 4 and now they are all soaking in cleaner overnight. If it works out for shop time this evening, I will get them cleaned up and get them to cycle, then reinstall. If time allows, I will attempt to fire it up again.

Just a pic of the driver side after pulling the injectors...

Got a small amount of shop time last night.

Man these injectors are dirty. I was able to get 4 of the injectors to cycle and cleaned up. While holding them open, I would spray brake cleaner thru them, you should have seen the crap that came out of them. I really want to build a test rig that uses a fuel pump to push solvent thru them and do 4 or 8 at a time, but I don't do enough of these swaps yet to justify the expense.

This weekend looks like I might get this pig fired up. If I can get the other 4 injectors to cycle and cleaned up, I will get it running and start to button up the remaining issues to put this one the road.

Well the weekend came and went with no progress. I did get a little time in the shop, but no real progress. I was out in the shop again last night for 40 minutes, I did get 2 more injectors to work, but still no luck with the last two. I just get frustrated trying to get them unstuck, I just loose interest in working on anything in the shop right now.

I did figure out the belt length and picked one up at AutoZone. If I don't get the last two to cycle, I will put on the belt and at least get that out of the way...

Finally!

Last nights shop time was productive, but not 100% a success. I was still having issues with getting 2 of the injectors to free up and cycle. So, I started searching thru Korbin's old parts stash from when he turbo'd his truck and switched to Deka 80's. I got lucky, found his old set of truck injectors. I was going to just use 2 of them, but noticed that the PN on them was different than the ones I was cleaning. Instead of mixing in a different PN, I tested each of his, they all cycled. I did a quick cleaning and installed them in my engine. Got it all buttoned up, put the battery back in and tried to start up this pig. It did not like it a first, but did get it to start and run for a second or two a few times.

I can't get the video to load...

Anyway, I need to figure out why it won't stay running, but at least I know it does now. I need to work on a few small issues and address the truck's wiring problems but it is progress in the right direction!

I'm going to assume you have VATS disabled in the tune... Can you keep it running by feathering the throttle?

I had sent the PCM to Brendon at lt1swap.com to have the VATS deleted and a few other things done. I sent him an email this morning, waiting to see what he says.

I can't keep it running by feathering the throttle. I do have a few vacuum leaks that I need to take care of. I will do those and see if that helps any...

If it starts and runs that same ammout of time every time, I'd say the VATS didnt get shut off because it sounds like it wants to run. I cant imagine he would have forgotten that though, but hes only human and things happen.
