Oil pan actual capacity
So throughout the years I have accumulated nsny different gen3 parts and pieces. Seems that one of the f body ls1 dipsticks found its way into a stock 2004 lq4 truck and has been living there for 3 years and 20,000 miles or so. Upon doing the oil change last time, I checked the dipstick after putting in 6 quarts. It needed 2 more and has been running at 8 quarts for those 20k miles or so without any ill effects.
Wondering why that hasn't caused any problems, I filled up an extra truck pan with 8 quarts and compared the f body ls1 pan level with the 5 quarts , and they are the same distance from the block. It seems like 8 quarts in a truck pan is a better alternative than 6 for cooler oil temps and all. Doesn't seem like the oil will interfere with the crank. Anybody else ever looked into this?

I saw the same thing when putting an 02 batwing pan/dipstick on an LQ9.
I filled the pan to the recommended 6 quarts and marked the dipstick.
