Default 2014 Camaro SS stuffed into an 83 GMC

I got a 2014 Camaro SS L99 automatic that is totaled. I'm tired of my 550hp 454 getting 6mpg but it's fun to drive. I'm gonna yank out the engine and tranny and install 6.2 assembly. I'm also wanting to put the interior in it as well. Dash, console, seats, HUD display, A/C box if I can, Back up camera and sensors, and radio (antenna in windshield). The problem I'm having is headers and fuel system. Will Camaro headers fit 83 GMC? I have hooker headers for a 454 in it now. It's gonna be a daily driver. I have been looking around but can't find a fuel injection fuel tank. I believe a 87 truck tank is fuel injection with a anti-slosh container for the fuel pump but I need 35-45lbs of pressure right now but going to up it later as I add supercharger or do I slap a fuel cell in it? If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to respond. Thank you.

87 was the first year for FI in those trucks, so that is the year you would want for the tank.

Nice site. Cool. Headers are now not a problem. Fuel supply is now my only hurdle to get over. They didn't have a fuel tank for my truck so I'm thinking that an 87 tank with modified pump from the 2014 Camaro. We shall see. Thanks.

I used a stock tank in a blazer we did, and upgraded the pump inside with one from like a 98 chevy 2500 series truck. was a direct fit and supplied the 60psi fuel pressure we needed for the LS1 we swapped in.

In my 68 5.3 swap I used an 87 blazer tank and swapped in a walbro 450, worked perfect.

probably dont need a 450 though, since its just acting as a lift pump.

Shoeonfeld makes headers at a reasonable price.

for fuel supply, use an '87 tank and an '87 sender. The pump was efi that year and supplied fuel to a TBI setup. As truckdoug stated, just find an in-tank pump that fits your needs and hang it on the sender. I too have done a stock 255 lph pump and a Walbro 450 on the stock hanger/sender in square body truck without any issues.

Thanks for the input. That's 2 hurdles I have over come, headers and fuel supply. Now a new one has raised it's ugly head. My 83 truck has power steering. 2014 Camaro has electric powered steering with no power steering pump. So I am looking into it. I haven't started on the project yet as I'm still driving the beast and getting parts so to make it a quick turn around. I will see how the electric rack will fit and what I need to do. I know a welder.

Found a solution to the power steering problem. Had a 2014 GMC Yukon XL Denali in the shop and it has a 6.2 in it and it has power steering. BINGO the bracket is around $100.00 from the dealer and it looks like the water pump, belt tensioner, and alt (will see bout the alt) will have to be changed to the GMC 6.2. On the SS the alt is down low to the drivers side. GMC alt is up on the drivers side and the radiator hose won't mate up so the water pump will have to be changed. Maybe I should have gotten the doner from the GMC.

Make sure the spacing is the same on the Camaro and the truck FEAD. May have to swap balancers as well.

Ok. Headers, fuel supply, power steering is solved. New hurdle. Transmission output shaft is a bolt on 'tripod' type and not the slip yoke. Great! Anyone run into this and solved it? If so, please tell me. It seems I need to just sell this tranny and get one from a 2014 GMC denali which has the slip yoke type output shaft. I just found a bed for my truck that is beautiful. So now the project is so close to getting started. Trans is my (HA!) last hurdle.

After talking to a trans guy, found out that the valve body is different between the two. So I got a output shaft and extension housing for a 2014 GMC Denali with a 6.2 and swapping them out for haft the price of the used Denali trans. It's starting to take shape. Once I start, I'll provide pics.

Here are the part #'s;
24224676= Extension housing (Tail shaft housing) $177.54
24264405= Output shaft (Tail shaft) $120.05
You can swap these parts out and have a transmission that takes the slip yoke. Thing is that you have to take the trans all the way down as this is the first part installed on a rebuild.

I forgot the 12 bolt rear end was in the flood of August 16 and it was rusty. Had it sand blasted and painted. The inside I had to get a wheel and extensions for my drill and clean out the inside. Dawn dish washing liquid did great. I installed a auburn posi and 3:08 Motive gears. Installed it in truck and is now broke in. Now the rear end is done. Next is putting tail shaft and housing in trans. Then It's 6.2/trans installation time.2014 Camaro SS stuffed into an 83 GMC-20170804_170715.jpg

Got side tracked. I'm going to pull the trigger soon. Got a lot of body work to do. Fitting engine and trans in. Got trans built with Phoenix #2 trans kit I believe and billet stuff inside that will take over 1200 hp. I'm gonna do 750-800 hp. I had a 550hp 454 in there for 20 years. I'll do pics when I start on it.
