Greetings from Europe, several swap questions from LS newbie
Hi Everyone!
My name is Roman and I'm a newbie in LS builds. I'm from Ukraine, Kyiv so first of all I must appologize for my English.
I'm building a custom project with the Opel Rekord 1969 hardtop coupe (someone of You ma know it like Chevrolet Opala SS in Brasil). This car has a nice body but unfortunately its' original engine really sucks being 1,9l 90hp 4cyl. So I'm into putting some hp/torque in that vegetable using good one American V8.
On early stages of my project I was planning to put there an old gen1 350 with a 671 blower. But then everything changed coz I've found a good one 5.3.
Now I have 2 5.3 Gen3 longblocks for that project. The first stage will be n/a 5.7 (iron block LS1), the second - bi-turbo 5.7 or even 6.3 stroker.
Several days ago my car was brought to pal's workshop for some body works (actually - a loooot of body works). So there's a good time to start building an engine.
The mechanical part is not the issue. I have a master overhaul kit for LS1 already on the way to me, my machine shop is ready to bore 5.3 to 5.7. But there are a lot of questions with controlling all that. The first of all I'm pretty confused with all the tonns of information about stock ECU's for LS engines. I'm looking for the cheapest way to make it run properly and was looking for stock LS1 ECU, but there are a lot of part numbers and I even can't figure out all the wiring and programming. So there are my questions:
1) what ECU to use? I'm planning to run electronic throttle (DBW) with ls1 or ls2 intake and 78/90mm electggronic TB. tranny will be 4L80. How to make this couple run properly in the cheapest way (ecu+tcm)?
2) what have to be done with ecu? I mean does it have be programmed in some way to run without immo or paired with TCM? What software and hardware is used in that process?
3) where to buy all I need? For all new parts I use summitracing or jeggs, but what's the best place to look for used parts? ebay seems to be a bit expensive sometimes. Is there anything else?
Thanks in advance for Your answers.

ECU is very dependent on the skills of the people around you.
Some swap places sell ecu kits, like the e-rod kit who can supply a wiring loom and ecu to suit various engine and transmission setups. But if you ever need to re-tune these...you then need to buy tuning software and find someone capable of working with it. I'd guess that will not be easy where you are.
It might be worth considering either Holley's Dominator ecu range or Megasquirt. Holley can do engine/trans/DBW all in one box
Megasquirt can do engine/trans with two boxes...not sure what it offers for DBW though.
Holley may not be the cheapest route...bit it might be the least hassle for you given your goals.
you might find some parts in UK/Europe here
There is another place, I think they are in Germany who do a lot of LS stuff...cant find their info at the minute though
